No buying unnecessary toiletries in January 2014

Hi Mrs MP, yesterday I noticed a thread on here (under health & beauty moneysaving) that queried if Aldi were discontinuing beauty products unless on a special offer, might be worth a look there and possibly a little buying spree if you might be running short of anything.:D
Enabling alert! :rotfl:3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
UU #11: Boots Essentials Curl Creme 250ml; WDBA, my HG curly product. I have another in my stash which DD bought me for Christmas. Still cheap as chips at £1.69 but it's gone up A LOT in eighteen months, it was under £1 when I first discovered it
TA #3: Collection Work The Colour Eyeshadow Pencil; WDNBA, I threw this is the bin after sharpening it four times in a row only for it to snap every time. Also, it's dry and Does. Not. Blend. At all. I can only get it off with an oil based cleanser too. No thank you, life is too short.
Hope everyone is making the most of their Saturday xx0 -
Sorry I forgot to say earlier welcome to any newcomers to the thread
Spent the evening going through my stash and reorganising it - anyone else love doing this?I love it but also feel very guilty.
Toiletries stash isn't too bad now, I have a lot of body lotion to use still and also a lot of bath products due to going a bit mad in the Lush sale. I just realised that before Christmas I only had 1 unopened shower gel left in the stash :T however, I gained another 3 at Christmas
The make up stash however is horrendous, particularly eyeshadows and lip products. I have a real problem with both of these. Most of this I have gained in the last year or so due to starting to read beauty blogs and watching you tube. I am appalled at how much money I must have spent in a year on make up. I tend to really want these sort of products after seeing them raved about. They then just sit in my stash unopened as I hardly ever wear eyeshadow or lip products:o:o
I've really got to do something about this. Went through everything this evening and left products out and I WILL start to use everything on rotation or give it away if I don't like it. I must stop looking at more things to buy. I know that I buy stuff when I feel down - it used to be clothes but has now changed to make up. Hardly buy any clothes anymore which is good but have just changed from one problem to another.
Sorry for the ramble!
OMG it genuinely could have been me that wrote all of the above  It used to be clothes for me too but has now moved onto make up and skincare......oh and toiletries lol! I also watch You Tube videos and read beauty blogs everyday and then off I go online to do some damage to the old credit card :rotfl: I live out in the sticks in North Wales and had never even heard of Space NK until this past year or so! The thing is though I buy all these lovely things but hardly ever use them......omg I need help. I especially love buying lipsticks and lipgloss and must confess to have placed another Space NK order the other day for Laura Mercier and Lipstick Queen :j
I hope you read this and maybe we can help each other :rotfl:0 -
For some inexplicable reason, I'd unsubscribed to this thread. I thought it was a bit odd that no one was posting.
Oops!!
Anyway, I have a UU to report from my PP list!
Aussie Mega Conditioner 250ml. This is my current HG. Love it so much as it conditions my mega thick hair!
I've subscribed once more to the thread! Phew!!Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
I joined this last year but have failed miserably! I have about 30 or 40 ins to declare...no thanks to Boots sales and LUSH sales!! Plus it was my birthday last week so more smellies!
The only good that has come from this thread for me is that I no longer save things (like LUSH bath bombs etc) for 'best' or special occasions. I just use it because otherwise when you finally use it on the special occasion its might have lost its smell etc! My baths are my little 'me' time so why not use my special products and make myself feel good!!
Will update and properly declare my INs later this eveningSlimming World Member - Started 05/02/150 -

Thanks for posting honey - I am glad to not be alone in this but am sorry to hear you have the same problem. I too tend to order most things online and I buy products based on recommendations from beauty bloggers or seeing how it looks on them without even thinking about swatching it or whether it would suit meI think I need to go through everything I have and try it out and then get rid of it doesn't suit me but it just feels so overwhelming and I feel ashamed of all the money I have spent.
I am the same in that I buy all the things and then hardly ever use them. I would like to start wearing eyeshadow and lipstick everyday but I worry about looking too over done IYKWIM as I don't normally wear these products on a daily basis. The other problem I have is that I would love to be able to do some different eye make up looks and have watched so many tutorials but can never get them to work on myself!
I had not heard of Space NK previously either. I had heard of Mac and a few other higher end cosmetic companies but in the past would never have considered spending £15 on a lipstick.
I hope we can help each other too :beer:0 -
I let myself be enabled by the Mrs Thrifty blog and bought some serum and two hand creams from Aldi today.
I'm going the wrong way!!! Hopefully this is just a January blip and the rest of the year will be much easier now I've stocked up.....:)Decluttering 2015: 2162/20150 -

Thanks for the reply, it certainly makes me feel better knowing that there are other mad women out thereI really should know better being a more mature lady......ahem 41 year old stressed mother of three teenage boys :rotfl: but I, like you buy all these lovely goodies when I'm feeling down which really isn't the way to go is it!! My problem is that I keep all the nice things that I buy and when I want to use one of them I am like a looney frantically looking everywhere for 'the' item but can never bloody find it. I need to go through everything that I have and sort it out properly. My god you know that I've watched too many You Tube videos because now I'm considering buying the Alex 9 drawer unit and some muji drawers for all my stuff :rotfl:
When you mentioned in one of your posts about only having a bag full of make up last year and now have a chest full of the stuff I did a proper belly laugh........so thanks for that, you certainly cheered me up today0 -
KT2802 - I still watch some videos on Youtube but I don't feel the same need to buy. The reason for this is I have become much more cynical about the big guns on youtube or in the blogging world, some of them are having incredible lifestyles based purely on their earnings from uploading videos/blogging, they get loads of freebies too. They say they are honestly reviewing and that may well be the case but take a look at Ruth Crilly., Tanya Burr, Fleurdeforce and they are jetting off all over the world, fancy hotels, red carpet events and that is because of youtube viewers.
No-one is forced to watch obviously but I am now of a much more cynical mindset when they say something is sooo amazing and then they never mention it again. This is just my opinion and really just aimed at the big names not the smaller bloggers although I will say that the big names do put a lot of effort into their blogs but it is just a very successful selling tool disguised as friendly girl talk.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

I made this today, it is an origami bookmark and I have made it to go with a book I have bought my mum for her birthday next week. It fits across the corner of the page. I am really pleased with it.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler
