Is going out on new years eve a thing of the past?

We've spent our NYE painting the nursery ready for our new addition in April, which tbh has been wonderful. We've had a nice dinner and are getting through 'death comes to pemberly'. I'm sure I won't make it to midnight as I don't usually make it past 9pm these days!
Having done millennium NYE in Edinburgh everything else now seems a real let down, so not interested at all in going out to pubs/clubs. My ideal NYE would be to have a bonfire in the garden, a bottle of bubbly and let off some fireworks at midnight. I guess I'm just getting old but I don't care!!
Happy 2014 to everyone :beer::beer:0 -

.
That hit the nail on the head for me.
I used to hit the town every new year - was such a big deal for me. Then the realisation hit me that it was often a complete let down - I haven't been in to a bar on NYE for about 7 years now.
These days I spend NYE either snuggled up to OH or at a small party that a friend often hasThe opposite of what you know...is also true0 -
I'm suddenly feeling rather down. I put everything into Xmas, making sure the kids had a good time, got my sons 18th on the 7th January (taking him to West End to see a show and for a meal) and suddenly its hit me what a saddo 'no mates' I am (I don't).
I don't have any money of course, but think I am going to have to do something to make myself more sociable over the next year. I'd love to have friends round or go out.
It possibly wouldn't matter if I hadn't always been a bit of a wallflower.., suddenly I'm here again, and its rather depressing (first single New Year for a while).0 -
This year, I don't know why, it hasn't felt "Christmassy" and it doesn't feel "New Yeary" either. Maybe because, despite the wind & rain, it hasn't been cold and most days have been quite light? Maybe because I've not had much time off work and today has been a (very quiet) work day?
It's odd because I normally love NYE and look forward to it for ages, but this year I've had no enthusiasm for it at all.Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.0 -
We lived in Edinburgh and surrounding areas for 20 years but never went down town for the festivities. I saw it once by accident. I was a guest at the Royal Overseas Club which is up near the Greys monument. I went to the window to look out and what I saw in Princes Street appalled me.
Never would I wish that upon anyone.
It would have been fine if they'd stuck to the little crowd around the Tron Kirk and not started with this over commercialisation. I mean it doesn't bring the Council Tax down one penny in Princes Street and if you have a flat there or in Rose Street and go out for part of the evening, you can't get back in unless you've paid!0 -

I`ve NEVER been out for NYE.
When i was working i used to work night shifts on NYE as i didnt mind whereas others preferred to be home or out.
Now i`m a mum at home i just stay in with hubby and watch tv in the warm watching the NYE celebrations.
Most around me do the same too, even the single people.DebtFree FEB 2010!Slight blip in 2013 - Debtfree Aug 2014 :j

I hate going out at NY.
When I was a teenager I used to go with my parents to the Police Social Club.
For a few years DH and I went out with his sister and husband to a British Legion where BIL would DJ, very boring as didn't know anyone.
Stopped going out once DH got a job doing shift work.
This year we have promised our little girl (6) that she can try to stay up to see the new year in for the first time. I've had my parents round for a meal, now we're curled up in front of the TV.Proud to be dealing with my debts

I am staying in with my children and partner. The children will be allowed to stay up quite late, but probably not until midnight. Though if they wake at 12 with the noise that's fine.
We have got some nibbles type food and a few cans in and that will do us with films and cuddling up on the sofa.0 -
I'm going to a local night club / pub that has a BBQ in the backyard (you get a free burger or hot dog with an advance ticket) - Ticket is £6 in advance or £10 on the door and the place is useally pretty full and plays, imo, good music (rock, heavy metal and alternative), has a a decent selection of drinks on tap and in the fridge and a nice, pleasant atmosphere.
The ticket prices also compare very well to the other pubs and clubs in town (most are around the region of £15 - £40). I am also fortunate to be within walking distance (10 - 15 minutes) of the venue.Cheltenham Dude
