Is going out on new years eve a thing of the past?

Did a similar thing at work today and don't know of anyone who is going out, then again I don't work with any teenagers who no doubt will be... ah to be young again!
Only been 'out out' once for NY and didn't really enjoy it. Also used to work at a bar so always volunteered for that for the tips and the criac, this year however it's films, pizza and chocolate Baileys on the sofa0 -
Takeaway and wine, has been for at least the last five years. Turned down offers of going to two different friends. Used to go out, where i live is routinely featured on "drunk uk" or some such program with in the region of twenty pubs/bars/clubs within stumbling distance of each other. But its the same old places with an admin fee youd never normally consider paying and an extortional cab fare home.0

we're going out. I've been over going out NYE for the past few years. But this year oh's cousin who owns a pub is throwing a party for family so it should be fun. If it's super fun there is a lock in and DJ at his other pub where oh's brother is playing. It's nice to go to a party where there will be loads of people I like and enjoy chatting to.DF as at 30/12/16

I can't stand going out NYE, everyone has such high expectations but for me the night never lives up to them. I'm in my 20's so in theory I should be keen to go out, but I'd much rather just get in to my christmas pj's and have a night in front of the telly!
Plus I've overindulged so much this christmas I feel very bloated and unglamorous and the last thing I want to do is get dolled up in a little party dress.
We're having a few friends round for drinks and snacks and will probably go out briefly to see the fireworks at midnight, which I'm sure will be lovely...although if I had it my way I wouldn't have made plans at all and had an early night instead! Not very social I know but I find NYE is usually a total flop.0 -
We are going round to DHs parents...and will no doubt be watching Jools annual hootenanny - shudder.
Next year, I am going to find a nice cosy cottage for NYE and watch it all from the beach!0 -
I'm on taxi duties..As always..It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
Haven't been out for NYE since we had kids. These days it's just slumbering in front of Jools with a bottle of cava.0

Used to go out when younger as well as xmas eve but last couple of years no 1 has done anything for new years. Its just a normal night out except its very busy so places are rammed, have to pay to get into places and pay a hefty taxi fare to get home.0

I don't really like New Years Eve, never have - love Christmas though.
When I was a teenager I used to go to Trafalgar Square which I quite enjoyed and a few times me and OH have been abroad (Paris, Prague, Berlin) which was good, except that in Prague they throw fireworks at you which freaked me out. Two years ago we spent it in London, nice hotel, nice meal, went to the fireworks and then the parade on New Years Day but it cost a fortune!
This year we have decided to stay in. OH is cooking a nice meal, we have a bottle of Baileys and it's better for our young dog that we are here as there are fireworks already! The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
Hogmanay is a big deal up here, or it used to be before it got overly commercialised.
Back when I was a kid, we lived in an area with a strong community feel. Most of the kids were around the same age, the adults knew each other and we'd go from house to house visiting people, first footing after midnight and at a certain point we'd camp out in a bedroom and listen to the adults get drunk. Then people started moving away, the area no longer had the community feel and the parties stopped.
Then my city used to have a sort of impromptu street party thing, but that got taken over and within a few years it was really hard to get a ticket if you were a local because they were all given to the hotel for tourists. And now it's a big commercial thing where they charge for entry and its rubbish, and that's if it's not been cancelled because of the weather.
Bars and pubs that normally would be begging for your custom suddenly start charging to get in, and depending on the weather, are either packed or empty, drinks are way more expensive, people are wandering about throwing up at 8pm because they can't pace themselves, taxis charge triple, and people are under pressure to have the best night of their lives because it's New Year. And nobody is! Certainly not any more than they would on a normal night out, and probably less so because you also have to re-evaluate your life/find someone to kiss at midnight.
I'm being a misery guts and staying in with DH, the dog and our copious alcohol selection.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0
