Is going out on new years eve a thing of the past?

Hi all,

During a particularly dull day at work today, me and my colleague have had cause to make conversation with customers. Between us, we have casually asked 52 people if they have any fun plans for the evening - and only one person said they were actually going out

NYE seems to have turned into a bit of a non event from what I can see

Anyone going out this evening?

its not a non event not to go out....and it really depends in what context you ask about going out...Im not going out but i'm having a few friends round, and I'm not sure they would class being at my house as "going out"....

But whichever way you choose to spend it I hope you all have a good one!

Similar here, we've been invited to 3 house parties and will try to make it in some way to them all, but going out to the pub or a club that's for the single folks!

  • I've not been "out out" for NYE since I was a teenager.
However we always have friends around to our house, or us to theirs every year.

Unsure whether it's an age thing.
or just that I wouldn't want to spend £'s on going out when I can have a better time with nearest and dearest at home.

It's not a non event though. I enjoy NYE every year.

Hope you have an enjoyable evening whatever you are doing

Depends where you are, how old you are, if you're single/in a couple for starters.

I'd go out if there were somewhere to go, or somebody to go with.

20-30, in a city - probably know lots of people
50+, in a quiet residential area, living alone - probably know nobody

It's probably one of the worst nights of the year to go out, alone, and try to have a quiet half in a pub.... you're just reminded how everybody else has got friends :)

It's an age or circumstances thing.

We go out to our local pub at 7oc. Stay until the party people arrive, and have a ball looking at the outfits and mad get up. People watching. Depart about nine, and have a quiet time later watching Jules Holland, and a bottle of Cava.

Horses for courses, and each to their own.

I think going out to pubs and clubs for midnight fun is for the young. House get togethers are gret for those who like them.

Staying in is the new going out!

Ive not been out at new year for about 6 years now, not really an age thing for me, more a transport issue, all the buses go off here around 9 so when I did used to go out, Id go and stay with a friend and come back on the 2nd of Jan, nowhere really in my home town that Id want to go out in, the biggest pub is the wetherspoons but it will be jam packed tonight.

Ive been out a couple of times in Glasgow to the street parties and I could get a late bus home, but Id rather just spend it with my mum, have something to eat and a drink, same as I do at christmas.

Went out a lot more when I was in my 20s, probably every year out at Christmas or New Year, but then I worked in jobs where working on Christmas Eve and Hogmanay was par for the course, so it wasnt unusual just to be at work seeing in the bells.

I think it changes once you have children ...my DH and I are lucky if we stay awake until 9pm on any day let alone New Year's Eve :D

I enjoy celebrating NYE though I rarely go out as such. Usually I have friends over or I go to their houses. This year finds me in Devon with 18 other adults and 12 kids having a ball in the middle of nowhere. Quiet and relaxing it is not, full on and fantastic fun it certainly is. Staying in doesn't have to be boring or a non event. However you are planning to spend it I hope you all have a great evening and a very happy new year.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

Haven't been out for nye since I met my now DH. We have always chosen to spend our NYs together alone, in spite of so,e tempting offers. Occasionally we have gone to the first bit of a party and left early.

i'm a single mum so we're in but have wine, getting a take away and have the fab company of my kids.

We tend to all get together as a family tomorrow!

When I worked in the pub, the landlady knew to put me down for what hours she wanted on New Years but knew that by four on Xmas eve I was outta there! So never been a huge thing for me.
