Is going out on new years eve a thing of the past?

I stayed at home with my oh and puppy. We got a take away from our fave restaurant and watched a film and some comedy. And shortly retiring to bed.
I've said goodbye to a rubbish year, with the one person who has stood by me through everything, and seen in the new year with that same person.
I feel very blessed and loved, what better way to start a brand new chapter?
Happy new year

I stayed in, but my housemates all had their boy/girlfriends over and were holed up in their rooms, so a bit of a non-event for me.
But I have signed up for a Meetup event tomorrow so that should be a better day.Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.0 -
We went to the local Indian restaurant and had a meal and a few drinks, it was nice- quite relaxed and not too rowdy. Happy New year all

Just had the best new years eve for YEARS

Our 2 daughters are home from uni, and they are now both old enough to drink. For quite a few years, we couldn't go out to the pub or anything, because we didn't want to leave the kids on their own, and they were too young to come out. So we would have a takeaway, and put a film on and go to bed at 12.30am. Or we would occasionally go to a new year party at a neighbours house.
THIS year is the first Christmas and new year in our new home, in a very small town with a small population. It has 3 pubs, and every one of them was doing a new year party. All three pubs are within 10-15 minutes walk from our house!
So me and hubby got together with some friends (2 couples who have also only just recently moved here,) and all 6 of our adult children. We picked one of the pubs to go to, and they had fancy dress and a free buffet, and we stayed til 3am! Never stayed out so late since I was in my mid 20s! (Roughly 25 years ago.)
About 70 people came from the small town, and we all danced til our feet almost dropped off
I was actually a bit tired at about 10-ish for half an hour or so, but woke up again at half ten. Even at four a.m, I am wide awake, sipping port, and watching Trading Places with my hubby and two girls on DVD.
But I agree that people should spend new year how they want to. It is hugely expensive sometimes, but not when you have 3 pubs within half a mile of your home, offering free food and a party. One of the best decisions of our life, moving to this tiny, friendly little town.
Happy New Year everyone
edited to add: I agree with the poster who said earlier in the thread, that 'going out on new year' or not, depends on your circumstances. As I said, we couldn't go out often on new year's eve whilst our 2 girls (now 18 and 19) were growing up, but now we can again.

Tonight however we are at home having had a chilled evening with a bottle of wine, the tv and the laptop - facebook is pinging away like mad because everyone is sending their messages now because at midnight nothing goes through cyberspace!!

Exactly how my night was spent! Had my hubby by my side as well as the 2 cats. Purrfect! :blushing:

Lots of special wishes to you for 2014.

My OH and I booked a hotel and dinner / disco package in the town one of my sons lives in. He came to join us, and one of our other sons and his fianc!e came too. Partied until 1 am, up to bed in the hotel and then this morning a nice breakfast altogether and a leisurely trip home.
I didn't cost the earth even thought I picked up the whole tab, and we felt that perhaps we weren't getting as old as we thought we were.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. We went 'out' in the sense that we went to a friend's annual party. We both have young children so going 'out' properly on New Year's is of no interest to us.Wife and mother :jGrocery budget

Well we went out and we are 47 and 53 so I don't think age has a lot to do with it. We went to a pub within walking distance, it was pretty full but not packed as it's not one all the local youngsters go to (the landlord puts up big signs 'private party, ticket only' even though he doesn't actually sell tickets - it's to keep any random roving groups of kids out), there was a nice free buffet, and a disco at one end. It was a nice night - no obnoxious drunks, puking teenagers etc - but we still had a good time letting our hair down a bit and boogying the new year in.
This is with new man though. With ex used to either stay in and watch fireworks on TV (and he was not great company the last few years) or go to the world's most boring party at one of his relative's houses where they celebrate Midnight by praying for about half an hour![STRIKE][/STRIKE]I am a long term poster using an alter ego for debts and anything where I might mention relationship problems or ex.
