  • I have exactly the same issue with Sony UK, and after having the bank refund me, Sony have banned my PSN account.

Full story on reddit.com - can't link it tho. :/

Did you get anywhere? Have they unbanned you?

  • So they made you pay the money to give your PSN account back? Even though you didn't spend it??

Well it was no one I know it was some foreign person. I knew the email address they changed to as sony send you an email It was changed on the website according to sony but I only ever login to the website on my iPad so surely they can't get it from there or can they? Nothing else was affected except my PSN account. Nothing else had the same password, and I've changed my passwords for everything. Still they should be chasing the money from the hacker and not me.

If I was a victim of credit card fraud the bank wouldn't be chasing me for the money so why should sony in this case?
I bet they used a brute force password checker, what was the password and I'll confirm if it would be in a brute force application

I too have sympathy with the OP. I had a PSN account for years, just got a PS4, went to log in and told change password.

I believe this is because I haven't used the account, since Sony suffered the massive security breach a few years back.

Anyway, having purchased a yearly subscription to the PSN and also having purchased a digital game, I wouldn't be very happy to be in the OP position.

Makes me think twice about making digital purchases rather than disc games. I wouldn't worry about trophies achieved and friends list. However, if I spent hundreds on digital only content linked to my account, I wouldn't be happy to see them block my account, through no fault of my own and lose access to those digital purchases.

I was surprised to see, so many people on here, assuming the OP details were easily guessed/hackable and backing Sony for blocking their account, particularly after Sony themselves were found very wanting, when it came to security just a few years back.
  • Sony were the opposite for me. Somebody managed to get into my account and buy £60 of fifa points to transfer to a different account. He took all my console serial numbers and told me a report would be sent to head office to investigate, Guy was really helpful.

About a week or so later Sony had refunded my money and everything on my account was still intact. I still don't know to this day how they got in because I have a secure password (Symbols, upper and lower case and no common words or names) But I've read something about an EA account exploit and I scanned my computer for keyloggers. Haven't had a problem since.

Wish you the best of luck trying to get your money back. Just thought I'd try to give you hope that sony can refund money in situations like these.
I try to help as much as I can. But I'm also honest and speak my mind.

There is money to be made... They are losing money on the PS4... And I was going to buy one... Word of mouth spreads very quickly if I tell everyone to buy an xbox one. Plus I could go to gaming websites or the press and report it..

    They'd love that wouldn't they?

I'll see what the management say

    Sorry, I didn't get your email/letter/call, so I bought a PS4.

    Very happy with it too.

That's not a breach of security, and user data will not be compromised by a DDOS attack.
