Your car insurers would pay out for the damage but if they thought that you were negligent because you left the engine running with the keys in the car, they may well attempt to chase you for the money or refuse to insure you in the future as they thought that you didn't do enough to protect yourself.
This is basically what Sony are doing.
They probably feel that they have lost money due to one of their customers not taking security seriously enough and don't wish to be out of pocket because of it.0 -
Okay, what if someone broke into my house, stole a knife, then went and stabbed someone with itOne important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

Tomtoon, do you use Keychain to access your account on your iPad? iPads have the feature built in to protect your passwords where it automatically generates a garbled mix of upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols. If not then you are not utilising the built in security of your iPad.
Do you use your iPad away from home? Do you have added wifi hotspot security?
There are many ways to keep your passwords safe, some free and some chargeable. If you have chosen to just set up a normal password and not used any form of extra security then you have failed to protect your own details.0 -

Your analogy has nothing at all to do with the scenario here, you may want to read the first few posts again.
No one is suing the OP, no one is saying he is responsible for murder , Sony have merely stated that they are closing his account, at no loss to the OP.
OP has made no financial loss and no company can be forced to take someone as a customer if they choose not to.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I have not handed over any details to ANYONE.. They can be hacked... I'll take them to court via trading standards if I have to
Why do people always 1) write about going to court as if they're bound to win & 2) always seem to think trading standards will be interested with their issue?0 -

Do we know it's at no loss to the OP? I didn't see anything that stated it was the free account and not the paid for version. Even if it was free there could well be loss of ability to access paid for content such as downloaded games.0 -
OP, were you gamesharing by any chance?
Otherwise how did someone get your email address associated to PSN and your password?
Sony aren't refusing you access to PSN, you just have to set up a new account. You are refusing to do that. You'll be laughed out of court0 -

Thank you halibut. Someone who understood my point of view.
Sony were unhelpful. I asked surely they know who hacked into the account.
They said they don't
They are claiming they cannot remove the digital content from my download list, Which is a load of BS.
Sony have passed it back to their head office to see if there is any other way to recover the money..
I said I'll contact trading standards anyway0
