PSN account hacked, now I have it pay to get it back from being banned?

Can anyone help? Someone hacked my Playstation Network account on 4/11 and funded it £120 off my money and changed email and password. Reported to Sony who took a few days to investigate.

The first time i'd rang they gave me my account back and said because it was digital content purchased they couldn't refund me the £120, but said I could reverse the charge with my bank which I did(. It was only when the case had been passed to their Head Office and rang back (third time of speaking to them) they said that if the charges were reversed they'd ban my account. I argued my case etc they admitted they knew it wasn't me.

I'd forgotten about the case as I hadn't played on my ps3 for a few weeks. Then went back on yesterday and it said my account was banned. Rang them today and they keep saying I have to pay £120 (re-reverse the charges) otherwise the account will stay banned.

So basically I'm paying for the account being hacked. To purchase something on PSN Store all you need is for the details to be stored and enter a password, rediculous..

Awaiting for a call back from the management who I feel won't help. Apart from reporting to Trading Standards, who else can I contact if they don't give me my account back?

Thanks

This is not an unusual scenario it happens with people like PayPal as well. Yes you were entitled to reclaim your money, there is no doubt of that and we would all have done the same. However, hack or not that makes you a liability, and not worth keeping as a customer.

They don't want people who have poor security costing them money, and it is easier for them to ban accounts that have been hacked and are insecure, rather than risk it happening again.

  • That is not very helpful is it.

This clearly wasn't my fault and sonys security procedure for purchasing clearly isn't very high if you don't even have to enter a CSV code on a purchase which if you did it wouldn't have happened.

The person who hacked your account must have had your password which means you either have such poor password it was easy to guess, someone you know did the hacking or you have given your password out. Even if it wasn't the password to your account they had, if they knew your email password they could hack your emails to change the passwords on all your accounts linked to that email. It may be worth changing all your passwords ASAP.

It only takes my email address and a single password to get into my paypal account and send money to whosoever you wish- no codes required. I am therefore extremely careful about maintaining the highest security on my account, by changing password frequently and never ever divulging it to anyone or leaving the account without properly logging out.

As per FosterDog, if someone has hacked you then your other online details are at risk. You need to start changing passwords and working how it happened as things could get a lot worse than merely losing your account.

Well it was no one I know it was some foreign person. I knew the email address they changed to as sony send you an email It was changed on the website according to sony but I only ever login to the website on my iPad so surely they can't get it from there or can they? Nothing else was affected except my PSN account. Nothing else had the same password, and I've changed my passwords for everything. Still they should be chasing the money from the hacker and not me.

If I was a victim of credit card fraud the bank wouldn't be chasing me for the money so why should sony in this case?

I thought you had your money back from the bank, so Sony are not chasing you for it.

They have declined to allow you an account in future, that is something different.

They have said I can make a new account. Basically they are saying pay £120 or you can't have your account. Management rang me back but I was at work so got to wait until tomorrow.

I am not going to make a new account because I would lose all my friends and progress.

Then that leaves you with either hoping they change their mind, or basically cancelling the bank chargeback and refunding Sony their money.
