  • Hi folks and thanks for dropping in. Love that verbatim essentially quoted someone else verbatim :rotfl:

Anyhow, first off a confession. A pair of shoes hijacked me on Tuesday. They tick all the boxes recommended by the podiatrist and were reduced from £60 to £20 in the Clark's sale. It's been about a year since I was able to randomly buy a pair of shoes so my knee must be nearly healed:T

Also, on tues, I brought an unopened chocolate cake to work. This was a left over from my son being home but I was afraid that I'd eat it if it stayed.

Yesterday was a spendy day. Two lots of shopping and some bargainous purchases e.g. Sheets, etc. I resisted the reduced price books and the latest penny vincenzi. Not sure when it's due out in paperback. We loaded receipts onto the receet ap but it seems to be shortchanging us on our points  does anyone have any experience of this?

I also tried out a new to me recipe for bacon jam. Should make 12 portions but not the way OH has been eating it!

And, today I truly feel like an adult as I now have both a pension plan and the isa I opened yesterday. Really need to rework the sig but that's a job for later

Hope things are good with everyone. Take care and thanks for dropping in.

Bacon jam....it made my stomach lurch when I read it. THEN I googled it and it sounds lovely. I think it's one to try when I get back.

The shoes sound like a bargain and clarks shoes are fab.

Great news that you can finally wear randomly selected shoes - Manolos next on the list?

I'm intrigued as well by the bacon jam - always like to hear of a new foodstuff I haven't tried so I'm going to google it as well. Maybe post your recipe for us all?

Also marvellous news on the pension front. I know that has been on your mind for quite a while.

First the odd news, i have hit one of my periodic downers and that was before the scales told me that i'd put on a pound:mad:

i know i can't let this take hold so would welcome any asskicking people care to offer.

money side, successfully disposed of outcome of dispute with ex. £2k went off the mortgage while £1250 went to open my ISA. I'm still in a quandry as i know i get better interest on savings than i'm being charged for mortgage (>2% better) but do love to see it go down. i also reckon that when the rate changes happen, they'll apply immediately to the mortgage but not to the savings. so the decision is that I've committed £100 per month to the ISA and still want to hit my quarterly overpayments to the mortgage. anything extra, i can worry about as and when it appears.

i also got a £1.80 price match credit from mr s this week so will generate an OP when used. I got my 2 green redeem vouchers through as ordered. this one really is money for old rope esp the 25 points for referring so if anyone isn't currently using it. PM me with your email address and we'll both win!

We got our quarterly gas bill which was >£100 less than budgetted and our electric bill for this month was under too - a combination of DD not being here and us having been on holiday.

also got the credit card bill in that i knew would be big. it was £60 less than I'd thought but did include all the holiday spends. i knew next month would be tough but i really don't regret the stuff i got. i was able to treat family & friends to stuff that would have cost so much more than over here plus bagged a few things for my self inc a calvin klein suit for work for £60. i'm viewing it as spend to save.

I managed over 100 nectar ad points, 1 nectar survey and 2 Toluna surveys too.

the fight against the sugar is going well though when i asked at my GP to have my blood test repeated, I was told that it wasn't due yet. that makes me mad. all i wanted was some reassurance that things are going the right direction.

this week i reclaimed a subscription in work so that's £229 coming through at end of august to go towards the mortgage OP and have a health scheme reclaim going in today for £150.

work wise, my entire team should be well utilised this week which is great for the summer months. just need to get on top of invoicing and convert that to cash through the door.

House - well you know my cunning plan to tackle one area at a time and get it all done pre visitors descending in 2 weeks. that was a well thought out approach. just wish i had applied it:o

still, i do have 2 weeks and have made small inroads. better knuckle down to it though.

so, the question is, with all the positives, why am i so down?

who knows? like I said, feel free to apply boots to my well padded posterior and, if you've managed to read all of this, award yourself an endurance badge.

    take care all

You are doing really well, so don't let an occasional down day stretch any further!

In terms of OP to mortgage, whilst I can understand the appeal, perhaps it would be better to put the OP into an interest bearing account (123 Santander or Halifax give 3% and 5% respectively) and pay at the end of each quarter - win/win??

Yah boo to the doctor not repeating your blood test. However, you're doing so well with the sugar reduction, so by the time the test is repeated you're bound to get a great result.

I'm concerned atm because I had a retinopathy test at the end of June, which has come back ok from a diabetes viewpoint, but has raised concerns elsewhere, so I've been given an appointment at the general hospital for next week. My concern is that you wait ages for appointments unless it's urgent, so if I've got an appointment in just three weeks it must be urgent, eek. My immediate plan is to eat lots of blackcurrants/blackberries as they have been found to be beneficial for macular degeneration (just in case that's the problem).

    Hugs, Satchmo x
