Great idea with BTL and DS renting a room - know a few who've done it when a child has gone to Uni. Hopefully it'd mostly pay for itself that way.

Exciting - and gives me a slight chance of catching up with you :D Subject to not having an extension

Happy days with the dog coming home :j

BTL sounds like a great idea to me, and in London there's little to no chance of losing any money.

As for not being able to help your daughter out the same way, I guess it depends what she's like. Personally, I wouldn't mind at all if my Mum helped my brother out, as he works hard and hasn't had the same luck I have in some things. It's her money to spend how she likes. And it's not like you're buying him a free house, just giving him a leg-up.

  • Am I the only one to wonder how much Tilly has denied banks in interest due to others following her lead?

    Hopefully loads :)

Although it does depend on your interest rate vs saving, plus income tax etc.

I am so relieved to be DONE :j

  • Oh! Oh! So excited! A visit from THE Tilly of TT fame! I have arrived!

Anyhow, Monday is over and I will be doing the airport run shortly to get dd. This afternoon will all be about the 100 mile return to get the dog. I know within ten mins they will both be irritating me but the first ten mins will be good.

Got little done yesterday work wise. Was just a bits and pieces kind of day but things are going in the right direction. My prOblem staff member continues to exist but the others are total stars at the minute.

So, on the MSE side, I kinda have a plan. I'm upping my monthly isa savings by £150. This is doable as I have a few hundred expenses this month plus the different tax code from my car change in may means my monthly salary increased and this amount hadn't been committed. Any excess funds will sit in the current account until March when I can top up my wonderful interest paying isa. On the mortgage front, ops will continue re vouchers, OH's £75 transfer each month but the focus will be on maximising the deposit for DS. Once we buy the rental income should more or less offset the mortgage costs and allow me to go back to my op. I'm not going to change my target but I think it'll become more of a benchmark than anything else.

Just need to invest in a lunch for one of our wealth management team in work and another fOr the tax dept manager and take things from there so we are prepared to go in 6 months or so.

  • So both have arrived home along with more !!!! scattered around my house than I thought the suitcases could retain. On MSE news, I'm gonna have to put some diesel in the car before tomorrow's trip to dublin. Not good as it's more than 10p a litre up here. Realised yesterday that my milk bill will increase due to tea drinking by dd and friends. Her bf arrived yesterday evening. I wouldn't be his biggest fan and had hoped it wouldn't last the summer but, it is what it is.
Anyhow, work beckons and I'm gonna call at the building society to up my monthly isa payment at lunchtime. Happy hump day everyone

  • I need to look into this TT that folks talk about. I reckon it might be something I would like.
5 Year plan. April 2020 to June 2025- CC and mortgage free by time I'm 60

By end 2021 I want CC at £10,000.00
  • Hello INOD, I've already subscribed to your diary but thought it was about time I came out of the woodwork to say a proper hello.

I've enjoyed reading about your DFW journey and your trials and tribulations with your DS & DD. I know what you mean about kids (no matter what age) who take over the house as soon as they arrive with all their stuff.

I was interested to read your comment about fuel prices in NI/Dublin? Out of interest how much do you pay for each per litre? Over here Diesel is at 105.6 at the moment. I remember a time when I first got my car that petrol was 65p a litre in the 80s. It must be a headache having to put fuel in your car for work purposes. Luckily Im within walking distance of my work which is a saving.

Anyway, hope you have a good day today x
  • Hi granny, good to see you. Today I got diesel for €1.27 per litre which comes in under £1 a litre. The plus side is that I get 12p a mile back for any work travel.
Today my second meeting cancelled so I made it back to the office around four and got a few bits and pieces done to take the pressure off a bit tomorrow. Net result is that I'm currently slumped on the sofa in front of Hell's Kitchen having watched the soaps.

Today I am grateful for good roads and good drivers

  • Well, didn't last week disappear in a flash. Work, work and more work inc this morning. On MSE news, made an op of around £18 from voucher, refunds and TTs. Need to update my sig though. Have to make another £10 op as I used two £5 off vouchers yesterday and today. End of the month interest will cause the mortgage to creep into another £1000 but I daren't op unless merited as we have our holiday next month coinciding with the increase in monthly isa savings. Today we used an about to expire living social voucher and treated ourselves to lunch. All it cost was the £3 tip we left plus OH's bus fare into town and it was so good I think there will be a repeat visit at some point. Anyhow, got to go as I'm dog tired. As always, I'm grateful for this site. Even when I don't post, I love reading the news from others. I am also grateful for the rugby score albeit the result of a somewhat tame Ireland game.

  • Will have to deal with formal hearing on my complaint this week but I can handle that. The four hours I spent in work on Saturday means that I know exactly what I'm facing this week. Have a meeting with a fairly new client but it should be ok. Plus have vouchers to be used possibly for a spa treatment at a swanky hotel so all looking good. Anyhow, gotta get a wiggle on. So far today I am grateful for a decent night's sleep.
