Well today was my 6th day in a row in work. Not bad given I'm supposed to do four days a week with every Wednesday off plus I get neither ot nor toil. Still, inroads have been made so that's something. On the MSE front, I lodged my dental reclaim and did a sainsbugs shop using a price match of 56p voucher plus £12 off so at least £72 something plus whatever the TT gives me to go towards the mortgage tomorrow.
Am still being messed around by the hospital about my knee. The irony is that I have provision to go privately but only if there is an excessive delay. I just can't get anyone to commit that to writing. I'm close to exploding. On other news, as always DS is fine, dd is forgetting to be a good little ET and call home.
So, can anyone help. My teetotal mother will be 86 next Friday. Her mobility isn't great, she no longer likes to go to shows etc and she didn't read the peoples friend I got her on subscription one year. Apart from toffee, can anyone suggest anything? Btw, overseas sis has laid claim to flowers!Mortgage at 01.01.14 £119,481.83:eek: today £0 Emergency fund £5.5/5.5k & £200/200 cash.:jWeight 24/02/19 14st 7lb now 12st determined to stop defining myself by my mistakes. Besides the magazines subs and buckets of flowers, we've resorted to copious amounts of bird seed/fat balls, a bird bath, a bird feeder stick thing in the ground (does your Mum like watching them, have a garden?)
Or useful stuff like beanbag tea tray cushion thing...so articulate me :rotfl:

hi - jumping in - no idea if you are any where near her: a photo session in a studio of her and you/rest of the family?
they often have special offers on so that you can get 1 print and the session for a reasonable amount.
it's personal, involves her in an outing, and a record/reminder of her birthday. If you want (and shes able) you could follow it up with an afternoon tea so it is the celebration and present rolled into one?:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -

Just wondering what your mother likes to drink - is it just tea/coffee or does she like cordials etc?
I was thinking along the lines of elderflower cordial or ginger and apple cordial - there are others but I can't think of them now but they come in lovely posh bottles. You can usually find them in the adult 'squash' section!!0 -
A pretty tea/coffee set.
Tablecloth.
Manicure (together?)
I know sis has laid claim to flowers, but for two years, our siblings and the grown up grandchildren had a monthly rota of flowers. The joy she had from receiving a bouquet was magnified by ringing people (the sender AND other family members) and describing the contents of the bouquet. Nearby grandchildren with low funds were told a bunch of in-season personally delivered flowers would be the biggest gift. What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0 -

Hello, just popping in...
I have an 86 year old grandmother who is losing the plot amongst all of the other things you mention. We ended up getting her a little plastic wallet card which had a lovely sentiment on the front of it, to go in her purse. We wrote on the back who it was from, and sent an up to date photo in a frame of her great granddaughter, plus a card signed personally by said GG. I know your kids are far flung but have you any family photos done recently? Just personal ones, you could buy a nice frame for?

How about making a photo book of either her and the whole family or just your family? I've used snapf!sh and photob@x. My Mum liked to look at the book and I enjoyed doing it too.
Lots of good ideas though :T0
