  • so pleased. my budget for food is £94 a week and in January I have saved £206!!!!!!!! this means my spend for Jan is £170. wowee so pleased...(did I say that already :) )
I always find the supermarkets lower prices in Jan and Feb. so the real test will be to keep going. a local butchers are selling class A chicken breast fillets 5kg for £20 and 12 meat packs(mince, stewing steak, pork chops etc) for £19.99 so will stock up the freezer me thinks.
keep motivated everyone for a happy 2014 x

  • PAYDAY today, thank the lord!!! So I'm declaring at £107.68/£200:j:j:j.
To be fair I had cupboards and freezer full after christmas so this isn't a true representation of what I actually spend but even so I'm chuffed.
  • Oh dear, I have gone over budget. Had the rare opportunity of shopping at Mr T, so availed myself of the reduced price Carte Noire coffee (my biggest vice), the 200g jars are £4, which is very good and will last me ages. I was pleased they had this offer on, as I see other supermarkets (which I can't get to) had the smaller jars reduced to £2 (but not dear old Mr T). I also bought some fresh vegetables. Total spent £6.77.
    31.5/100
  • Another NSD today, and will probably have a few more in the next week as OH is leaving to spend a few days on an island in the middle of Cook strait. He is on a paua, crayfish, scallop, tuna and fishing expedition, so with luck the menu should be varied when he gets back

Declaring 278.57 for January - 21.43 under budget. Surprising that even with a restricted budget we have eaten better due to a better planning :-)

    writing out a menu
    batch cooking and freezing
buying potatoes and onions off the farm
    not buying bottled water
not running into shops every day just to pick up bits and bobs
