I forgot about freedom Friday until I was on the way to toddler group this morning and worn my usual, jeans, plain top and a hoody :o

No spends the past few days. I'm hoping to make the girls some dresses if I can find some time, already got fabric :) and I have a sewing budget so all is good if I need a zip or 2 :j

  • Cheers Mr Fedup!!

Determined to stick to my budget or get below it.
Realistically the only things I don't mind spending on are tights and undercrackers. But I'm alright for those at the mo so lets keep going!

Anyone have sure fire ways of making sure they stay out of the shops other than...well, just staying out of the shops?!

  • PS I'm absolutely rubbish at making clothes, but I'm loving hearing about people on here doing it. When I was young loads of mine, my sister's and my brothers' clothes were made by our mum, plus everyone seemed to knit - saving a fortune!

i've followed this thread previously in 2011, and took part in 2012 (didn't do tooo badly). Looking at my spend diary back then, clothes weren't really my 'problem area' in terms of my budget and the NSD Challenge kind of sorted me out with the areas that were. However, I do feel of late I have been spending more on clothes, not sure if it's because of the sales, because I did need some new bits or because I have got into the mindset of 'oh I don't have an issue with clothes shopping'

Sooooo....I'm going to have a wardrobe spring clean tomorrow and see if there's anything that can be freed either for wear, the car boot or charity. Then i might think about whether to set myself an official target or just try and limit what I buy going forward. I am a little wary of throwing lots out though, I have a black knitted dress I haven't worn for ages, thought the other week about getting rid of it and now it turns out I'll be wearing it to a funeral in a couple of weeks (giving the standard funeral suit and blouse a rest) - had I got rid of it, i might have gone out to buy something else.

Fedup - is it ok to possibly use this challenge as motivation to limit my spends, and my (second) confessional space for when I do open the wallet?

Hi Kerri, of course you can.

It would be brilliant if you set yourself a budget and I could add you to the challenge as a rather marvellous no. 50 for people taking part in the challenge. Pretty good for 10 days eh?

Either way it is entirely up to you. Pop back on and let us all know how you are doing.

Day 11 ahead with no spends, yesterday I managed to zoom straight past the final reductions rail in M+S and didn't look at anything, phew!

Pleased to report no spends on clothes/shoes/bags so far this year :j

Embarrassingly, I haven't bought any new knickers for 4 years! I do need some, but the style I like (tanga/bikini, low rise, stretch cotton, but with thin string/elastic sides) just isn't available anywhere. Always, always got them in M&S, but they stopped selling them in store around 2009 I think. Last ones bought online early 2010.

Duoboots have sent their sales email through. I will resist. Love their knee length boots - the calf is by size and being skinny, they are about the only place I've found where I can get some to fit. Still, I have 2 pairs that are 4 and 6 years old and are still going strong. Will give them a good clean to make them look shiny and new. :)

I pulled out a long grey jacket/cardigan that I hadn't worn for a very long time to join in with Freedom Friday. Teamed with up polo neck jumper and a scarf and trousers - perfectly good for work :D
