Do people find that online membership works for them or do I have to bite the bullet and head for a local group.
Hi Mudgekin, I've done both group and online. In my experience, I only really had success with group. Despite paying my money up front for online, I just didn't really feel fully accountable, like I do in group. Also the fact that I could hop on my scales, and maybe lean on the sink (I know, what's the point?!!) to get a better reading - leaning back slightly helps toomeant that I didn't have to be as diligent, and could let myself off the hook.
Whilst I'm no avid fan of group, especially the happy-clappy bit, generally speaking they're a nice bunch of people, and let's face it, you're all in much the same boat, and can relate to one another. If someone is having a bad time staying focussed then they get lots of encouragement from other members, and the consultant, if they're good, will then give them a ring during the week. Mine has been good and checked my food diary for 5 weeks on the trot to reassure me that I'm eating the right things.
It's obviously whatever suits each person best.
I think it might be a good idea to go along to a first meeting, get the books, and just give them a try. It can be a bit daunting going in to a new group/environment, but in all likelihood at this time of year you'll be joining along with others anyway. One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing
Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home0 -
Happy new year one & all
Sorry i have not been around - i didnt have much time to come & post while i was at my parents. I didnt really follow the plan (bar a couple of days ) whilst at home. I instead watched how much i was eating and had smaller portions of naughty foods. This tactic has worked as i have only gained 1.5lbs over the 2 weeks at home (and i SWEAR these are *week pounds as its that time this week) .
If that is the case then i am over the moon as it will the first time in i dont know how long i have not gained (or had a small gain).
I have decided that i am going to be partaking in 2 diets/plans - SW being the main plan and the 5:2 plan (although i will be doing just one day rather than 2). Today has been the first day on the 5:2 (or 5:1 as it will be for me :T) and its not been half as bad as i expected :j:T.
I have managed to get by on NAS squash/2 cups of coffee/slimasoup and a tangerine so far. At 5pm i will be having my M & S count on us dinner (320 calories) and that will be me done food wise for the day. I have one last uni assignment to get submitted so i plan to stay at work until 8pm then head home. Watch TV for an hour then bed...:D
Tomorrow will be a SW dayand i am planning on a EE day
B - Magic porridge (hex b) with vanilla mullerlight plus tangerine
L - Rice with mixed veggies, and chicken pieces (soy sauce will be used for extra taste)
D - Teriyake salmon fillet with broccoli, cauli
snacks - a banana, and an apple, milk for hex a, packet of french fies (4.5) and options (2)
Hope everyone had a great new year - there are so many posts already so will prob just read the last couple of days worth.

Hi all,
I'm thinking of joining SW this week but can't decide between online and group. I really don't do with the whole group thing and it makes me want to crawl into a corner so I guess online and support from here may be the way to go.
I used to be a svelte 8 -10 until I hurt my back and had to undergo. 2 lots of spinal surgery and I ballooned to a 14 between meds and being unable to exercise. I am still fairly immobile and on large amounts of pain meds so I need to do something to get rid of the extra weight.
I am 5 ft 5 inches and 11 st 10 lbs:eek: I do all of my cooking at home and don't often have a takeaway but my downfall is high fat foods. I adore my nightly panacotta, I cook a lot of Indian And Chinese foods. My whole family is riddled with diabetes so I early have to get this weight gain under control now before I develop it and being in my mid 50s it is in the post unless I do something
Do people find that online membership works for them or do I have to bite the bullet and head for a local group.
I have only mostly joined the groups as i found they helped me to stay focused although this time i am doing it at home and have found that i am motivated. I dont know if this down to my own head space though as i would not have managed on my own this time last year. I guess it all boils down to what you think will work for you. Are you motivated in general? if so then go for the online membership if not then group maybe a better option for you.
Good luck with whatever you decide on :j

MrsM my LO (Rebecca) is 14 weeks! I can't believe your Charlie is 21months! (Where has time gone?) I'm exclusively breast feeding at the moment so will get extra healthy extras - 4 in total I think - great as I'm in love with milk & cheese at the moment!
Wish me luck for starting weigh in tonight! Hoping I'm less than when I originally started in Oct 09
I will be doing the raffle for our group until we get a new consultant & for those of you who go to group - what type of things would you want to see in the raffle? Ingredients for a recipe? (No diary or meat though!) stacks of fruit & veg? Jelly & moulds? Scales? Etc0
