Week 1, Day 6
Brunch: bacon, egg, potatoes, Grapes
Tea: Duck leg (no skin), dry roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, gravy (2 Syns)
Mullerlight Strawberry flavour, banana
Using up stuff in the freezer really - these duck legs have been in there yonks. Lazy day today, although we've taken down the decorations and sorted them into new boxes to put in the garage.
We're off out to a drinks party in half an hour - the first challenge really since starting. Not sure what we're going to drink (MrMrsLady is a teatotaller so normally has apple juice or a J2O). Hoping they have Diet Coke or similar, but if necessary we'll ask for water. Trouble is that sort of thing draws attention to the idea you might be 'on a diet' and then everyone has an opinion don't they?! We also have to avoid the nibbles!!
Couple of other challenges this week too . Tomorrow I have a 'brainstorming' session at work and promised to bring cake. I can still do that, but I think I will take some fruit too - I wouldn't be surprised if there are others that would like that as much as me. Tuesday I have a weekly meeting that involves a 2-course set meal. I think I might try to ring the hotel tomorrow to see what's on the menu and see if they can accommodate me.0 -
I cant afford the butcher sadlyHave you done a like for like check at a few local butchers? It's usually cheaper if you buy the meat packs from butchers than buying from supermarkets in my experience and the meat always seems much nicer.
Beanie do you have "wholesale" butcher by you, the sort that would have had meat trucks at the markets years ago? They're usually a bit cheaper than high street butchers as you buy in bulk. I agree with Topgirl - if you can buy in bulk a bit then it would work out cheaper (not cheaper than YS meat though if that's what you buy!)
I bought 4kg of chicken breasts today for £20, which is more than half the price than at Tesc0s/saisnburys..but you do need a big freezer. They do smaller packs too, but I just can't be *rsed to keep going up there..:D
eta - sorry Beanie, just read that you only have one butcher but thought i'd leave this as an idea for others...Mortgage amount at 31/12/2011 £166,050 now £0 as at Sept 21 - 15yrs 4 months early.0 -
Becks - you can do it if you really want to - just make sure you have a little diet coke every day until you're free to avoid those headaches
sarymclary - had to Google 'fluffer' you learn something new every day! :rotfl:
TIE - hugs xx
I must check out our butchers when I start working in town again. Worth a look but they've been v expensive every time I've looked. We sometimes get mince & chicken breasts in bulk from Costco - not much cheaper, but very good quality.
There is too much goddam non-sw food in my house, though back to our 'normal' life & routine tomorrow so hopefully that'll get me back on track with a bang!
B - fruit salad topped with ff cherry yoghurt
L - ikea meatballs, chips & peas (at Ikea)
D; chicken & bacon pasta bake (2 syns) NOM NOM
Hubby's just got out the cheese & bikkies - it'd be rude not to have a little

Hi everyone - just back from holiday and have had a quick weigh to see how much damage needs to be got rid of before WI at group on Thursday morning - not too bad about 2.5lb.
Pretty amazed with that for just over 2 weeks off plan including french bread and wine every day and very little fruit and veg - France doesn't seem to be very "healthy" in that respect when you eat out. Fortunately I did quite a bit of cooking so tried to keep it fairly SW friendly and we did plenty of walking which helped with the body magic.
Haven't read all the posts - the thread moves too fast to keep up. Hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Year.
Will be back on plan properly tomorrow although today hasn't been too bad but not completely on plan.
Good to see you back again MrsMc - I, too, really used to enjoy reading your posts and especially liked your SW recipes!

See one of my problems as well is as I am such a tight budget I cant just buy the low syn versions of things.
I have to weigh up weight loss with the shopping bill.
Anyone else got a similar problem?
I'm not on a really tight budget beanie but I am careful, mainly I can't bear being ripped off which I think happens with many SMs. That's why most of my shopping is done in Aldi with a bit of shopping around. Fortunately I can also buy stuff when I see it on offer so making savings longer term.there is only one butcher & they don't do meal packs or similar.
Thanks for the idea though
Our local butcher (like you, only one) caters for pretentious people with more money than sense IMO.
Currently I'm eating beef that I bought for £4 per kg at Asda so much cheaper than mince. I bought a large joint and cut it up into small joints and some cubes. I don't have a mincer but have used it for 'luxury' chilli which is just as nice if not better than made with mince.
urbancookie, 30g of a 'Raw Health' granola is listed as a HEB, but no other brands. I suppose they vary in content. Rest of the menu looks OK assuming SW (Frylight) roasties and HM or NAS mint sauce. Gravy is variable depending on how it's made and how much you have but 2.5 syns is a reasonable average.0 -

Good to see you back Denise, where have you been in France? Hope you had a lovely time.:)
I've talked to French people about the lack of vegetables in restaurants and the theory was that historically they're seen as 'poor people's food' that you fill yourself up with at home to save money. So when they go to restaurants they expect loads of meat and minimal accompaniments. Seems now that they fill up with bread instead!:rotfl:
Just 2.5lbs is brilliant!:T0 -

*blushes* Seems I'm the naughty girl in the class who'll teach you all the rude words it turns out!
Feeling a bit peckish this evening, but really not wanting to get into the habit of eating after dinner, which I don't usually do anyway. Have had a cuppa, and told my tummy to jog on with the nagging. One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing
Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home0 -
I am feeling more positive today. Took ds back to uni yesterday and packed 2 bags full of non SW friendly left overs for him to take with him - even the cheese, which was a wrench. Then went to Sainsburys and restocked.
Today I have had
B: weetabix and skimmed milk
Snack banana
L: jacket potato, cottage cheese and salad, blueberries, muller lite
Snack crisps 6s
D:veg curry and rice, apple
2 chocolate gingers (ok I didn't send everything with ds!)
It's my birthday We'd, and going out to eat Tues night and then for lunch on Wed, so will try and stick to the plan today and tomorrow at least as I weigh in Wed. I'm not expecting a loss, just want to limit the damage.
TIE, I know just what you mean about sympathy making you worse. I had a phone call from A friend today, ringing to see how Christmas and the New Year had been, and I couldn't speak on the phone, and sobbed afterwards. Up to that point I had been having a better day. That makes it sound as if I would rather she hadn't phoned - I am glad she phoned but it was still painful.
You shouldn't beat yourself up about going off plan at this time, you need to do whatever you need to to get through. Take care of yourself and hugs.

Thanks for the welcome back! We had planned on going to Britanny until we saw the floods on a TV in a bar! so ended up staying in Normandy (we have a motorhome so travel around) - it was still very wet and very windy but at least we avoided the awful floods.
Agree about restaurants filling you up with bread, although our last meal out we got filled up with a huge steak and a mahoosive portion of "frites"!
To be quite honest I'm really looking forward to eating wholemeal bread again - I find it much more satisfying than white bread. Will also be eating much more veg although don't have much in at the moment just the ends of bags of frozen until I go shopping on Tuesday (it's market day so I can get some fresh fruit and veg).
