Pennylane~ Not a consultant but I have to say I am coming round more & more to the line of thought that we need to eat free food in moderation. If we eat absolutely unlimited free foods we need to be mindful of what we eating & the quantities particularily with some fruit.
Just my thoughts. It is an interesting debate I think and would welcome other peoples thoughts.
I find I have better losses if I eat more salad and veg and limit my fruit. I also can't have unlimited pasta, rice etc or I don't have such a good weight loss so weigh a smaller portion and fill up on veggies. I used to eat bread everyday but only have it probably 1 day a week and eat soups or Corn Thins instead.

Penny lane - forgive me because my memory isn't great, but don't you go to class yourself? Can you ask your consultant to verify the issues you are having?
Drop her an email with all your questions or is she on Facebook? I'm sure she might appreciate a topic to discuss in image therapy.. I know ours always did.
Also, I feel like we've ruined the magic of SW for you.. If sticking to it to the letter works for you then please don't feel the need to question it. Everyone is different and some people question stuff and some don't.. It's just the way of the world..Mortgage amount at 31/12/2011 £166,050 now £0 as at Sept 21 - 15yrs 4 months early.0 -
Pennylane I'm not a consultant and I have only been going to group for 5 weeks but it seems to me that the unlimited free food thing is only really sensible if you can be disciplined with portion control. I don't weigh any free food but my plates do tend to look more like a success express plate than an extra easy one. In theory if you followed the slimming world advice to the letter you could eat a plate full of 2/3 pasta and 1/3rd veg. Common sense tells me that it would not be realistic to expect significant weight losses if this was your diet.
Also from a nutritional point of view I think one needs to be very careful about relying too heavily on the syn value only of something. I think it very much depends on the individual food. e.g. an avocado is 9.5 syns, now I could have 9 squares of chocolate instead but most up to date research tells us that we are more likely to use the fat supplied by the avocado as fuel and therefore less likely to lay it down as fat where the reverse is true of the chocolate. Now ,obviously because avocados are calorie dense if you ate too many of them of course you would put on weight and I am certainly not advocating never eating chocolate :eek: I just personally don't think that all syns are created equal, that's all.
I think 2 of my grandmothers old sayings are fitting here
1) A little of what you fancy does you good - and -
2) Everything in moderation.0 -
Hello all,
well done to the other losers tonight.
I have to be honest but Im really struggling at the moment, was really good on Saturday and didn't even crave anything naughty which was a first for me.
Then it all went down hill on Sunday, I had to take my mum to Costco to pick up sandwiches for my nans 92nd Birthday party. So had a slice of pizza for breakfast (it was only £1.95 for a huge slice in my defence) then because I had the pizza I thought sod it and ate what I wanted to at the buffet.
I came home and felt really unsettled, and a tad emotional as my nan looked so happy at her party bless her, so I had a plate of chips and a bowl of ice-cream.
Have picked again tonight, feel a bit of a fraud posting on here, especially as there are so many of you doing so well.
I want to get back into the game but have zero motivation. Im also on holiday in 10 days. I don't really know what to do with myself0 -
