Hello
Has anyone had need for a unit adapted for a wheelchair? We want to take mom with us but need an adapted unit. Did you experience any difficulty in finding sites with adapted units or any other problems? what site would you recommend?
Thanks in advance0 -
Strapped: I'm in the south west. I have flown with them when youngest was a few months old. Happy to drive to any ferry port in England, but not so confident driving once we've crossed the sea!
Hats off to you for doing that - I've travelled a lot with mine, but I've only got the one! I'm used to driving both in England and abroad, but driving on the right when you're not used to it can be a bit tricky in the beginning, especially roundabouts can be confusing, and if you have three little ones distracting you and no adult help, it might be a bit of a mission...
If you do decide to do it, I would do the abroad driving bit at a time when the children are asleep, ie early morning or late at night, that way you'd probably have less traffic to contend with as well. Just remember to stay on the right though - it might sound stupid, but if your mind is on something else, it's so easy to pull out on the left when you pull out into an empty road...Your best bet is ferries from Plymouth and camps in Brittany. I recommend Chateux Des Ormes.
Ferry from Plymouth is such a long crossing though and very expensive, (unless you get a deal on the ferry as well through the sun, I'm not sure how that bit works?) so I would do as much driving in the UK as I could instead. Perhaps Portsmouth Caen, but that's not cheap either. Portsmouth Le Havre is not as expensive, but it adds a bit to the drive in France if you head to the park suggested by qetu...
Good luck whatever you decide to do anyway!I don't think I can hang on til Friday...0 -

All of the Haven sites have vans with adapted units / ramps etc. You see a lot of people in wheelchairs at these sites although some sites are more hilly than others.
Where abouts in the country are you thinking? Maybe someone can recommend a specific site.
I am not sure what happens about booking adapted units through the sun hols....
I would look at the FAQ and check - i think i have read in the past that you book through the sun and then phone the park direct to ask for an adapted unit BUT i would check with the sun that this is correct...

It's a tough one whether to do dover to calais (the cheapest ferry) and then lots of driving or a more expensive ferry then not much driving.
I've done the trip to Brittany both ways (from the SE) and it's six of one, but if I was in the SW I would go from Plymouth.0 -
Do you really have to buy entertainment passes at the Butlins sites ?
If you search these forums there are a few threads where people are saying that they didn't get issued with wristbands or passes of any kind and just had to show their room key. These were last year though so things may have changed.0 -

The roads are good, and the signs around the ferry ports are in English as well as French. There are several parks in Northern Brittany close to Roscoff or St Malo that you could choose (and which tend to be the less popular so you'd be more likely to get your choice, esp out of school holidays). They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0 -

Plymouth-Roscoff overnight is the way to go - adds a bit to the cost but you effectively get an extra day in France. The overnight ferries fill up quick though so you're lucky to get them. The cabins sleep 4 and are perfectly adequate. It's an early start, but with 3 young kids it will be anyway. ;-) Take your own breakfast! They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0 -
Hi all, really sorry to ask a newbie question... I have read through this thread and someone else asked this but I couldn't spot a reply. I've been looking on the sun website and it was there that caused the confusion...!
So, I've never booked one of these before but I have to go for a school holiday date (if there are any left at the time of booking ofcourse)
My question is - when looking at the sites on the sun website, many say things like 'Pay only £9.50 on such and such dates' Does this mean these are they only dates you can book a £9.50 holiday at that site? Or, is that saying that you can book other dates but these specific days there are no extra charges?
I am prepapred to pay service charges etc, but it looks at the moment like no parks do the school holiday dates..
When I go to book online when it opens, can I search by date and see which parks are available so i can then put those on the form?
I can see otherwise that I might choose 3/4 parks we like, and the 3/4 dates we can make and none of the combo work..??April 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -

See below for all dates covered by the current promotion. The "pay only" means that there is no daily service charge or entertainment pass charge for breaks on those particular dates that say "pay only".

No. You have to put in 4 parks and 4 dates. If you are a priority booker the system will check what combo is available, and let you know, then you can pay if you like the result. If you don't, you can clear the selection and start again. However, if you are a first time booker, you will only find out what park and dates you have been given AFTER you have paid.
