If you search these forums there are a few threads where people are saying that they didn't get issued with wristbands or passes of any kind and just had to show their room key. These were last year though so things may have changed.
A fiend went in ocober half term, and the whole family had to show thir passes enteing the pool and entertaiment.0 -

^^ Haven and Park Resorts, Yes, each family member has to show a pass to get into the entertainment complex/swimming pool.
I went to Butlins Skegness (booked direct) in October half term. Not once did I have to show my chalet key or I.D to get into any entertainment venues/bars or the swimming complex. I only had to show my key at the entrance gates to enter to leave when we went out in the car. Was I lucky? Don't know.
To be honest, not everyone on holiday on the Sun holiday dates are Sun holiday regulars. There are families like me who book direct for whatever reason. As far as Butlins are concerned, you are on site and will spend money in bars, restaurants, sweet/gift shop, amusements, rides. Not a lot at Butlins is 'free' as such. I am diabetic and I accidentally had a small bottle of diet cola in my hand when we were entering Reds for the evening. The bouncer stopped me taking it in :eek:as apparently "they sell diet cola at the bar". I said that I needed to be sure that I got diet cola, as many times in Weatherspoons I have been given regular cola. Nope, the bottle went in the bin and I had to buy a £3 drink!0 -

My friend was on a sun holiday and they all had to show their passes.
Perhaps it's different if you book direct.
I have never been to butlins, - never really been that bothered tbh, and the whole 'entertainment' thing is not for me lol.
The Cost of the passes do seem pretty high, but they do seem to have a lot of facilites as well.
It seems pointless to go and not buy them!
I'd be a bit miffed having to pay those prices for soft drinks though.:eek:0 -

I wonder if it has just changed then? My SIL went in September with the Sun deal for a weekend and paid for the passes as she wanted to use the new swimming complex. She wasn't given any passes just a wrist band for her meals. This was Skegness though.0 -
Plymouth-Roscoff overnight is the way to go - adds a bit to the cost but you effectively get an extra day in France. The overnight ferries fill up quick though so you're lucky to get them. The cabins sleep 4 and are perfectly adequate. It's an early start, but with 3 young kids it will be anyway. ;-) Take your own breakfast!
Love the overnight ferry too0 -
Can anyone recommend anywhere in Europe that would be suitable for a 2,3 and 5 year old? I'm a single parent, so am looking for lots to do on site or very locally and close to airport or ferry port as taking all 3 little ones far on my own is not easy! I don't really want to take a car unless the site is very close to a ferry port! Thanks!
We did overnight Plymouth ferry

If you book direct you aren't issued with a wristband or pass anyway and only ever have to show your room key so they would have no way of knowing by a room key whether you had booked direct or not. Never been myself though, just going on what other people have reported. Obviously its up to each person if they want to take the risk though but its a lot of money to pay for nothing if you don't need them.
It would be interesting to know what price they would charge if you buy them when you get there compared to buying in advance. Can't seem to find anything on their website though.0 -
