Hey, I just noticed, if jeanniefaethecarse is number 98, we only need two more contenders to make it 100!!! How amazing would that be? Go forth people and recruit another two nutters to join us before Kat closes the door...

Kat: "I proffered this to my family when I was back home ; is the determination needed to prevent yourself from doing something (spending) the same as the determination to make yourself do something (save)...? There is a definite feel of relief from not being pushed into paying something off - I owed someone else money last time - now it's just me against me".

Hmm thats an interesting one Kat  From personal experience I have found that the main drive for tackling anything is Fear or discontent. Fear of change or not changing.. Or the fear of having something we dont want or the fear of never attaining what we really want.. I suppose it depends on personal circumstance and how strongly one feels about their cause..

My debt busting journey truly started when I was having to consider transferring to a less paid job due to proposed future work related changes that I didnt agree with. I then started to get fearful of how I would survive on less money and what this would entail, which brought everything into perspective and triggered the reaction to do something about my situation!

Its definitely a relief when the pressure has gone! However I find that I work better and achieve targets when under pressure. Like you I am trying to save a target amount this year for an emergency fund. I have even toyed with the idea of taking out a loan for that sum with the intention of repaying it with gusto because Im afraid that without that pressure I wont have the same discipline of scrutinising each penny! Maybe thats not such a good idea ;)

Hope youre all keeping well and warm on this blustery day.

    Its time for tea

NSK-As this shopping should have been delivered yesterday, but will come tomorrow can today be classed as a NSD? The money leaves my account when they pick will be 11pm. Or can yesterday be classed as a NSD instead.?

You choose which day to class as an SFD but technically if the money is going out today at 11pm then today is the spend day. Whatever day the money is charged to you bascially!

Having a dull day at work so was going to stop at the supermarket on the way home (and no doubt attempt to ‘cheer’ myself up with junk) but… NO! I have remembered I have leftovers from last night’s meal in the fridge so I am going to eat those. Previously they would have ended up getting binned. No more wasting food for me in 2014! :)

    SFDs: 2/20
    Food budget: £0/£240
    Lunch: £1/£5
    Brand downshift: 0/5
    Foodbank: £0/£3
    Exercise sessions: 0/15
    Social: 0/2

Yesterday was a SFD after all. Hubby paid for hospital parking and, whilst I looked for BIL's pressie I decided to withdraw money from bank (easier for him to return than if I used my cashcard, I thought) but there was a stonking long queue at cash machine.

Bought his pressie today (£15 but I bought his xmas pressie with earned vouchers so...), £1 on lunch from £1 bakery (really couldn't be bothered making lunch for today when I eventually got home last night, and this was the cheapest option in town) £3 in £1 shop on new tupperware tubs and I'll pay for hospital parking tonight.
  • Member #77 checking in. Hoping for my first SFD today, well there's no reason I won't get it, I just don't feel I can declare it before midnight lol. Need to spend on parking for church tmrw but can then have a run of SFD until I have to fill up the car with petrol.

    Hi all.

Had another chilled out morning with my notebooks! Worked out my pressie budgets for birthdays and Christmas and will be transferring
£10 each week into my 'birthday/xmas pot' online. My bank has of 1/1/14 started putting the title of the account rather than the account no which will make it much easier to see where money has gone when doing online banking :)

Today is not a SFD because I bought a hairdressing groupon - £12 for a cut and finish :) very happy with this as I have been keeping an eye out for a while and went to this salon previously on a groupon an was happy with the result. I have until some time in Feb to use it but will go this month. I have a couple of days off planned in Jan so will go then and combine with a trip to Lidl (same town)!

I have to pay for fence panels some point soon but that's ok. I have £120 In the house/vets pot which should cover it. Just hope nothing else happens before I have chance to build it back up again. I only have £5 per week allocated to this pot which may not be enough but has to be better than nothing.

Other pots include hair/clothes £8 per wk (for both me and M), car £20 per week, savings £2 (hope to increase this to pay extra off the mortgage when the cc is paid off).

Will see how all this goes but feeling a bit more organised :)

Have already made pasta sauce for twice to go in the fridge and stir fried some veg to make chow mein for tea (had some if the veg at lunch with leftover curry from the other day). Going to make a chocolate cake shortly. I have some 9p reduced double cream to whip up and put in it along with some homemade blackberry and apple jam so it should be rather spectacular if I do say so myself!

Right off to tidy the kitchen before the baking commences!
