MrsGSR OHs, can't live without and can't live with them, lol. Don't quite get his logic of not being able to budget because of the petrol. Fair enough he needs to buy that whenever needed and this might change monthly but he could still budget for everything else, no. Men........

Today is another SFD but need an Aldi shop tomorrow. Still got £100 in my account and hope to be able to use 50 for the CC (paid my parents flight for now). Looked through the stuff I kept from when DS was a baby and am pretty sorted for new one. But will get a few things tomorrow, like nappies and cheap sleep suits and other item needed for the hospital bag. Still 7 weeks (+/-2) to but I want to be ready.

Off to read through the other posts since yesterday.

    Have a nice weekend all

This is what I have said to him but he didn't want to know. I figure he isn't really ready to face that yet.

Gosh, it's quiet on here today! I had an accidental SFD today - was meant to post a parcel and buy kale to add to my lentil stew I'm making for dinner. I forgot about the parcel til after the PO shut and forgot about the kale until just now (the stew has been in the slow cooker for the last three hours lol!).

I'm working nightshift tonight so if I can stay away from the vending machine...only joking Kat, I'm firmly on the path of good eating. No amount of chocolate could sway me off it just now!

I will need to buy some kale tomorrow though as I'm missing my green smoothies- will try and drag myself out of bed in time to get to the farmers market.

    Enjoy your Saturday night :)

Hi everyone! I've been MIA and fallen off the wagon a bit and lost track of the thread completely, so have just been trying to figure out where I'm at. I lost track of spending a bit but I *think* it's not quite as bad as I thought....
Diesel is definitely under! This is easier to track as I always get diesel on a cashback card and pay all I've spent on diesel back in full, plus my 'normal' payments.
I've utterly lost count of NSDs due to various things. On the plus side, poorly bunny is now doing really well and looks set to make a full recovery, so worth the *gulp* £387.49 I have spent on vets bills, a nebuliser and ultra-dust-free-bedding. Completely ridiculous that I didn't insure her when I really do know better, but there we go….
I feel like I’ve spent loads over the last week as I’ve bought three pairs of wedding shoes (obviously will only keep one, but returns and delivery are free and it’s hard to decide when looking online and I can’t actually try them on!) and a couple of bridesmaids dresses, though that has come from the wedding pot.
I will try harder next month. I’ve been offered a fair bit of extra work which will help, and hopefully nothing else expensive will go wrong… :o

    Food: £About £220/£200
Misc: £??/£60 - some got spent on poorly bunny and I lost track
    Spends: £?? About £100?/£100
    Drop brands: 5/5
    Food bank: £5/£5
    Beauty: £5.5/10
    Diesel: £169.72/200
    Outings:6/5
Exercise: not sure /25 – but *think* I’ve done pretty well….
    NSDs: Absolutely lost count

    So, there's my guilty confession.

    Have a good weekend everyone!

Broke my SFD today. Didn't have a car as OH is away. So this afternoon DS and I took a walk to two supermarkets and and had a look at baby stuff. Bought stuff that was cheap and on my list. I also noted down some prices and then went home and ordered the ones that were cheaper online, just basics like muslin clothes etc that I didn't keep etc. So lost a SFD but got essentials for cheaper and feel a bit more organised. Also did two loads of washing of DS' old baby clothes I kept as they were a bit wiffy after being in the attic.

If OH stays at his dad's tonight I might start preparing some kitchen walls for painting.

Also started looking at organising stuff for my wedding like you Bex. Can't buy a dress yet or shoes but started looking at wedding cake designs (friend will make it for cost of materials), cheap but meaningful wedding favours I can make myself for under a quid per guest, invitation and place card designs to do ourselves.

I agree Siouxsie, it is very quiet on here today. I'm starting to notice that everyone posts loads in the first two weeks of the month and after that it seems to get quieter, with the same faces/names posting daily :)

MrsGSR fingers crossed all our wayward OHs have their light bulb moments soon! I include all of our joint spends in my spend days but I cannot include his spends as he spends something nearly everyday. He does however realise that there are some days when I will refuse to spend any money, to gain a SFD, and he knows he won't be able to convince me otherwise :rotfl:

I should also note that today when I came home from the gym, he had hoovered, mopped and cleaned the kitchen and loaded the dishwasher! I am still flabbergasted! but very pleased :j

I have a dilemma that I want to run past you lot, although I think I know the answer. I have started saving £50 a month in an emergency fund for things like car repairs etc. However, I am desperate for my debts to go down faster and am wondering whether to just pay £50 off the debt and if a real emergency does occur, then I can put it on the ccard. What does everyone think?

Today has been a spend day, so I only have one day left that I can spend on. I am not sure this is going to be possible as I have two different things I need to buy in the next week and I don't think it is possible to get them both on the same day. I'm going to plan and scheme and see if I can find a way round this!

I have done an exercise class, had no alcohol but did have some chocolate.

Hope you have all had a lovely day and hope there have been no more night terrors at your house NSK?

Personally, and I think I may be in the minority, I use all my spare money to pay off the debt. Like you say, if an emergency does occur, there's always the option to use your credit card. I can't see the point in having hundreds of pounds in a bank account just in case you need it. Your debt needs it now! That's the way I see it, and that's the way I operate. An emergency has come up for me this month and I'm going to have to use my overdraft to cover it. However, if I had a little emergency fund my debt total would be higher and I would have paid interest on it up until now.

I was shot down in flames on another thread for daring to say that I'd rather use spare money to pay off debt than start an emergency fund so the emergency fund is probably the right answer. I guess you'll know yourself which is the best option for you. It'll be interesting to see what others think!

If you are paying interest on your debt then I personally would not have an emergency fund and use credit card if an emergency come up as you will be paying interest and might (hopefully) not have an emergency.

If your debt is interest free then I suppose do whichever would make you feel better- either seeing debt gone quicker or knowing it won't go up if you have an emergency as you have something to use.

It definitely is quietier here! At the beginning of the month I would read before work and when I got home there would be a couple of pages to catch up with!

Thanks Siouxsie. I really like the idea of having an emergency fund, however now I have started saving one, I'm thinking I've never had one before and survived and really want the debt gone.

At the moment my main worrying debt is a ccard that is 0% but finishes being 0% in June. I should be able to pay this off in time without using the £50 a month I am putting to one side, but it would be gone sooner if I used the £250 I'd save over the next 6 months.

Maybe a compromise would be to start the emergency fund when my ccard is paid off. My only remaining debt will then be a low interest loan and two low interest overdrafts.

fmess I agree, debt first even if it is 0%, gone is gone. I don't have much debt now, usually only sth like a flight on the CC but always pay that first even before it caused charges/interest. Savings don't earn much atm anyway and I rather see the debt go down a bit more than having emergency money. Your compromise sounds sensible to me.
