  • Missv30 - glad to hear you mum is ok.

As predicted today was a spendy day - £12.50 on petrol (which should last until pay day), £1.20 on a magazine (tsk tsk - but that is good for me - and the first one I have bought in a while), £5 on beauty (toothpaste, toothbrushes and body spray), £12.09 on food.

No exercise today, but hoping to walk to work tomorrow. But we will see. Really need to get my mojo back with regards to exercise.

Hope everyone is well, and will check in again tomorrow. It's nearly the weekend!

Bagged myself another NSD :j. Made day 20 of no sugar and day 19 of no grains. I was sorely tempted this evening, as my neighbour gave me a pack of gluten-free jaffa cakes that she'd bought for dd, but that dd wasn't keen on. Kept away from troughing on them by deciding to have them on Friday evening. Thought about sitting down with a bag of sultanas whilst on mse, but took a handful of cashews instead plus a glass of water.

Got no knittting done, but did have a nice long chat with MIL in Texas.

I've been totting up my spends from Nov and Dec in various categories and it is interesting to see where I spend it. Those of you who've been mse for a while will do it automatically, but I'm still learning. (and those of you using spreadsheets may have ones that do it for you. But I'm a pen and paper sort of gal) Eg, I would say that I've cut back what I spend in charity shops, and the figures support this. But not by as much as I thought!

Or, my Dec shop in Sa1ns wss high as I was re-stocking g-f items and things I can only get from there and so far in Jan it is negligible. My Jan shopping in Ald1 is well down, so next month I'll include the veggie box in the grocery spend - after spending time on the naughty step for not including it already!

Since straining my back last week, I've been using my stepper a lot,
which is adding up nicely on the exercise quota.

Enough wittering and rambling for now! Dd is asleep in bed next to me, snoring for England. Of course, I never snore so she must get that from her dad....:D

    SFD 11/20
    Food £135.74/£200
    Downshift 2/5 (Veg)
    Lunch to work 8/11
    Outings 2/4
    Exercise 12/15
    Petrol £50/£50
    Food bank £0
    Beauty spends 0/£10

A spendy day yesterday as we needed milk/bread. I also decided to use the last £20 in my petrol budget while I was out and about, so hopefully that will last until the end of the month :D
  • I am on 11 NSD’s so far for the month which is great for me. I was spending bits and bobs everywhere and could not find a way to stop it. Now I have a fantastic new chart which I have made. It’s basically a year calendar on a sheet of A4 paper and if I have a NSD I stick a little coloured sticker in the box for that day. It is really helping me not to spend as I really want to stick another sticker on the chart. It’s like a reward chart for adults! J I also have a list which I add to during the week of the little essential bits that I need to buy and then just buy them all together on one day, doing the food shop on that day too.

I am eating better too; trying to keep off the junk food and am making myself have a breakfast before leaving for work. Even though I am usually in a rush and not always hungry then it is stopping me going to the shop for sugary snacks mid morning!

Really enjoying reading everyone’s progress. Very inspiring! :)
  • Hi sorry haven't posted for a while so busy. Have just caught up with the thread.
Sending big hugs to everyone who's having a rough time especially CALLING
Can't remember how many NSD I've done now. shady2307 like your idea of a sticker on calendar going to try that one as lost track.

Budgets have gone out of the window, due to spending jan wages in dec :-( have had to put petrol on cc but will pay off as soon as I get paid next week.

Having a bit of a dilemma, have now swapped our cc onto a 0% for 30 months yippee so with the extra money do I pay more to cc ( will be paid off before 30months if make min payments) do I build up an emergency fund as we don't have any, not sure what do you lovely people think?

Hope you find a better room soon NSK.

Right that's me updated. Better get some work done now.

    SFDs: 12/20 (I think)
    Food budget: £190/£240
    Lunch: £1/£5
Brand downshift: 1/5 (smartprice nat. yoghurt)
    Foodbank: £0/£3
    Exercise sessions: 4/15
    Social: 2/2

Vets only cost me £16.22 for Kitty's tablets, the lovely vet didn't charge me a consultation fee :)

    No need to spend today.

Missy, so glad it was good news for mum xx
Calling, how are you doing with everything? xxx

Doodles, personally I would build up an emergency fund. If you don't have need to use it you can eventually pay it towards the CC.

    Evening all,
Been awol a couple of days haven't really been myself :( but some good news my mum is all clear thank goodness am to tired to work out spends but have been naughty buying chocolate last couple of days to pick myself up not working :(

    Yay - that's great news.

The passport photo stories are making me chuckle.

    Hugs to poorly people.

Woe is me - I now have all my current credit card statements in and have added on the last couple of transactions that are not yet showing and it is worse than I thought, I have allocated the relevant payments this month and have updated my sig to show these figures. I can't pay off as much as I would like because of all the blooming other things I need to pay out for from this pay day. Onwards and upwards for next month though.

I have decided to do a pizza night on Fridays, I will make my own base and just get the bits and bobs for toppings. We don't have anything good for toppings in at the moment so this will start next week, the kids love sitting on the floor watching a film with us with a takeaway pizza but we don't do it very often so this way we can do it weekly.

Today will be a SFD, it is my Mum's birthday, she doesn't want or need anything and my sister always comes with loads of presents which poor Mum has to try and find a place for so I bought her chocolates, a book and I made her an origami bookmark to go with it - and if I say so myself it is very pretty.

Hi all, I have completely lost count of my NSDs this month but I do know that every time I have spent something, I have really thought about it, and I have spent less than I normally would. We are looking at having more in the bank at the end of the month than usual, even with paying off an overdraft at the beginning of the month. Being the first time I have tried this challenge I am so proud of what my husband and I have achieved this month, and even with some extra spends on 2 school trips for the kids which I hadnt budgeted for as we didnt know about them, I am more than pleased. Although bless my 7year old daughter, she knows we are trying hard to save so she wanted to pay for her school trip, so we did half each. She was so happy to be paying something, I'm so proud of her :T
So looking forward to paying off some more of the debts at the end of the month!!!
    NSD 10(ish)/20
exercise 9/15 (need to try harder, but have lost 4lb in 2 weeks!)
diesel £110/£50 (we have never tracked this before so this is a bit of an eyeopener  although £20 was for a visit to Cumbria to see the inlaws and they fed us for the weekend so we saved on food IYSWIM ;))
Food £98.76/£125 This is the one I am most proud of, for 2 adults and 3 kids I think we have done so well! (Includes cleaning stuff, nappies and toiletries too!!!)
Beauty 0/£10 hair cuts next week for us all which will blow this though :o
LTW - almost every shift!! :D
So for a first month, this is fantastic! I will definitely be continuing next month, although our food budget will need to be higher, as we have little in the freezer and cupboards now.
Off to bake some cakes for kids lunch boxes, and also some bread.

Thanks to everyone on this thread for the amazing support, ideas and general friendliness!
