  • Carpet's down :D

    Very, very pleased with it!

The dark bit up the middle is a bit the guy at the shop gave me (for free :money:) to put by the back door to hopefully help catch muddy foot prints

    It's huge!

Thinking about cutting it in 1/2 and having one bit bound (approx £3 for 1 metre) to make a permanent rug!

    *sigh*

Is the referendum getting to anyone else?

I'm just really worried that it's going to be really, really close (say 51/49) - that close, although just over 1/2 the people have voted for the winner and will be very happy, just under 1/2 the people will have voted for the loser and will be very, very unhappy

How is that going to achieve harmony etc?

I know loads of people that've fallen out with friends etc as they're voting different ways :(

I know one 'yes' person who (we were in a large group debating it), when asked by a 'no' person how would we get money to support ourselves when the oil runs out, said they had no idea .... when asked if that didn't worry them, they said that it did but they had to vote 'yes' otherwise you're not really Scottish ..... seriously, what's that got to do with it!

I think that regardless of what happens there'll be a bit of strife for a while. There's going to be a huge kickback in the event of a No, partly from the Yes folk who have been hugely passionate about it and partly from people in Englandshire who are understandably irked at the bribes being thrown at us to vote No.

From what I've seen, the good part of this whole thing has been that so many more people are actually engaged in politics and talking about what they want from their country. In the event of a Yes, I think that this is going to lead to a more inclusive grassroots type of politics where people feel more involved. It's been really inspiring over the last few months watching people who maybe haven't voted before talking about how they see the future of the country.

I've seen some fallings out, but nothing too serious (apart from one friend who takes herself FAR too seriously ;) ) and for the most part we're accepting that different people think differently and that we're all going to have to live together regardless. As I think I said on Pippi's thread, we're a split household here, so we don't talk about it at all :D

I'm worried about what will happen, either way! It'll be strange, that's for sure.

  • It worries me .... I realised earlier that my bank account is English (and my ISAs are all with English banks ... just opened one last week!) - and my mortgage - it's never been an issue but what if we have to get a different currency :(

How on earth would that work - my salary paid in one currency to a bank using another

Think of all the 'official UK' *things* we use - DVLA, Passport, Home Office etc etc etc - can you imagine the cost of having to duplicate these all?

    *sigh*

Don't like this at all .....

My understanding is that we could keep our UK driving licences, passports etc and renew as Scottish ones.

My (English) bank, mortgage provider etc operates in Scotland now and will continue to do so, so I'm not worried about that. We can still use the pound, even without the blessing of the UK government, so again it's not a concern to me.

Mebbe I'm just an optimist ;)

    I'm the pessimist then!:)

While we can continue to use driving licences, passports etc until renewal - we will have to set up our own agencies to process these moving forwards

That will cost a fortune :(

As for the pound - I personally feel that's not been resolved properly or satisfactorily to inspire any confidence

We may be able to keep a pound but it will not be the pound sterling as we know it and it will therefore be a different currency with a different value
