Pets vet fund covers all their boosters, wormers, flea stuff etc & trips to vet for odds & sods. Hoping to build a 'pot' so I can switch them to Accident / Injury policies but it keeps getting used up :( eg Maisie has been 3 times in the past fortnight & Archie twice incl to emergency out of hours vet :( - none of it is claimable on their insurance (which makes me wonder if I should just ditch it but .....)

Cant really see any obvious ways for you to save any money.
The animals cost you a wee bit but you don't need me to tell you that.
Good thing is you have no debt.

Wish my mortgage was as little as yours though!

    Hi again Rising.
I noticed that you put £0 for water rates, are they included in your service charge, or something else?

Are you able to cut down on Electricity? I live in a 2 up 2 down terrace (more like a semi at the mo, as empty house next door) and we use £40 a month electricity (same as you) and there are 3 of us.

Are you able to reduce your grocery bill at all? I know that you have to buy some specialist stuff (I think, from what I remember?), but can you do batch cooking maybe, or get it from a cheaper shop?

Great to see you back again :) Happy New Year, I hope you had a lovely Christmas.

Good thing is you have no debt.

Wish my mortgage was as little as yours though!

I (sure you do too) wish my mortgage was non-existent - what a difference that would make!

Animals have been costing an absolute fortune recently :( Maisie never seems to be away from the vet - never anything (thank god & touch wood) really serious but it's £50 - £100 here & there which is a bit p'ing off when none of it is claimable on the insurance *sigh*

Certainly with her, I have decent amount of food in stock (new bag of dry which does about 3 months & about the same of wet) so hoping to catch up.

Archie - bless him, he's never cost me a penny - has had a 'blip' - and I've had to find a different food (as he wasn't eating & is a skinny sod so really can't afford to lose weight :() which is hideously expensive

Great news is he loves it :) downside is he's been eating 3 / 4 pouches / day  (usually only eats 2) *sigh*

I found it on offer yesterday so got a decent amount - well it won't last long at 4 pouches / day but someone I know on a different forum is sending me some pouches to try that seem to be a similar consistency so fingers crossed!

Mia .... well, she's just Mia - she's been doing really well but has been really upset about something or other this week *sigh* - she seems more 'herself' this morning so hope she's got over it!

Lovely to see you too WTB :) I really must post more this year as totally lost the plot money wise last year :o

I'm in Scotland so water rates are in with our Council Tax :)

Gas & Elec are £75 / month for the 2 - split won't be exact it was just to get them down. I really don't know how it's that high as I'm out all day and really only have 1 low watt light on in the hall from about 4:30 - 9 and another on in the room that I'm in at the time

I do wash a lot for just one person I guess ??? (usually 2 loads of clothes / week for me, 1 bedding, 1 towels - that would be usual wouldn't it? I can have a couple of loads / week for the dog at this time of year though)

I think a lot of utilities tend to be things that you need to have on whether there's one of you or six of you in a house eg fridge / freezer etc etc so it often looks like a single person must be wasting loads but they're really not!

It sadly costs the same to heat my house with just me being in it as it would if there were 4 people (or more!) living in it.

I don't even use a hairdryer / straightners etc - and generally don't even have the heating on upstairs (not needed as the heat from down here goes up)

Not sure where it goes tbh!

Conscious I haven't submitted readings for quite a while :o - mainly as my elec meter is such a PITA to get to!

Anyway, decided to bite the bullet & see just how bad it is - I'm usually in debit at this time of the year as, when I originally switched, it was just before winter, so don't have time to 'build the buffer' before it's cold!

Readings submitted and ..... I'm about £50 in credit :j - that will be down to the mild weather we've had!

It also tells you how much you've used over the past 12 months:

    Elec: £401.54
    Gas: £447.27
    Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
    2016 Sell: £125/£250

    Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000

  • Groceries

Probably a bit overestimated above :o

Going to try to go back to my £2080 annual figure which comes down to £40 / week or £174 (ish) / month

I've been a bit lax recently about not separating out pet spends from my own which is one of the reasons it's been higher

Still a lot but dietary issues are still a total nightmare tbh

On the positive side, freezers are full so will need to try to use up what's in them :T

(I'm good at filling them - not so good at using the stuff up :rotfl:)

  • Plan for today

I really need to go & drop some stuff off at the rescue - I'd been intending to do it during the hols as it's not too far from Mum & Dads BUT I've had this horrid stinking cold so not been near M&D in case they catch it

(is it only me that's always ill when on hols - honestly, been laid up with it since Monday - only just starting to feel anywhere near normal and ... just in time to go back to work on Monday!)

Seems a long way to go just to drop it off but really could do with it gone (and I know they can use the stuff) - up side is there's a Morrisons so can pop in for a few bits there :). I so wish there was a Morry's here!

    Don't need a lot ....

Aside from that - walking the dog, tidying up a bit (got loads of ironing to do ;))
