Well not really, he is attempting to preach to a woman who seems to me to have a very good work ethic and is looking to find out if there is any additional support available to her and her family.

From what I can tell her household income is just slightly lower than mine so will be paying a lot of tax into the system and I think it is wrong that the government don't give more support to the families which are on middle incomes.

Thank you! Exactually what i was wanting to find out!

Was starting to wonder why i even bothered posting- what i thought was a reasonable question- on a forum. I will google it next time!

    Thanks again :-)

Just to state a point to those that I have rattled their cages...

When I created the thread I asked a simple question....as family and friends said I should look in to it.... I knew I wouldn't get any help! Just thought I would ask a friendly forum!

I DONT expect the government to support me in any way.

I've been with my husband 10 year, we've worked for everything, not received help from parents or the government, and we've managed and sometimes really struggled when we were on lower incomes.

We planned our pregnancy as it was the right time for us.

I don't think the government owes me anything! But I do think the whole system is wrong, and more help should be available for the low income working families compared to those who haven't paid a penny into the system.

£30k per year plus SMP plus child benefit isn't that low.

No problem, I'm glad you did post I think some of the posts in this thread say more about them than they do about you. It really makes my blood boil when you have a reasonable income and you try to see what you might get back in return for the tax you are paying into the system. For some reason people some to like attacking people with young families when they seek some support, I have an 8 month old baby girl and have a good enough income to be able to take care of her and my partnet but with that said, what's wrong with me expecting something in return for the 5 figure sum that the government gets from me in deductions from my salary.

Just for a laugh (because I didn't expect to get anything) I had a look on entitledto and sure enough I am allowed to claim nothing, my partner gets £20.30/week

    Wow....:rotfl:

Those of you criticising my post should perhaps have read it properly.

No where have I said that people/families that need financial help should not be able to receive it. But if you choose to interpret what I have written to support your own opinions, then there's nothing I can do.

My response was to this comment ....
Theres no way the goverment support working couples and families anyway.... And if they do its pennies

    btw...I'm a SHE..:p

It is a reasonable question and you got your answer. You just made the mistake of biting on the judgemental rubbish which always get posted here.

You don't have to justify yourself to those who think they have some right to give you a moral lecture about what you should or shouldn't be claiming, either ignore them and just take the good factual advice you've been given, or enter into a side debate with them if you want a bit of fun. But don't take it personally.

The system is wrong... It's common knowledge. You just have to read the stories in the papers of those family's over breeding, not working, wanting a bigger house, wanting more money, having sky and all the best gadgets. They think the government owe them everything.

I agree that the system is wrong, for different reasons than you. But I don't base my assessment of the benefits system upon what is printed in the Daily Mail, it would be very stupid, naive and ignorant of me to do so.

I NEVER SAID I WAS ON A LOW INCOME!!!!! We are a young couple on a fortunate income! I was stating that those families... Not me.... The working families out there on LOW MINIMUM incomes get naff all...!

Or indeed any paper, I've read complete rubbish about the benefits system in lots of papers including the ones people do tend to believe like the Guardian, Telegraph, Observer, Independant as well as likes of the Express, Mail, Mirror and Sun. Stuff published by organisations like Unions and churches are often rubbish as well.

Or even if the article is correct, the headline often screams something which isn't reflected in the detail, or gives a worst case scenario designed to get a good headline rather than give people a balanced view.
