Nolongerindenial - regarding postage - I always ask for a proof of posting which is given free of charge from RM - you can then follow up with RM the non delivery. Hope this helps - I use it every time and don't forget to write on your parcel - 'proof of posting obtained'.

I already get proof of postage certificates stamped when we had our mail bags and the RM do not check whats in the bag (there are over 200 items on an average day and would take ages)

I like the idea of Proof of postage obtained on the parcel though - I will be updating our labels to include that statement and see if that reduces the number of item not received cases!

Love this site and love this page but as somebody who is a little bit older, not old but more time lived than going to live!!!!!!! Can people start loving and living the moment! It is tough when you have no money and bills to pay I have been there!!!! But one thing you can never get back is time! I understand why people are desperately waiting for the next pay day but you will never get those lost days back.

That's what I did this weekend. Couldn't afford to miss the sunny weather.

I paid that £45 on my credit card on Friday to make me feel better but then went out for an al fresco dinner last night with the girlfriend and spent £35 back on the card. I enjoyed my evening more so than worrying about money.

Sometimes just gotta say stuff the money and enjoy yourselves.

I was on call all weekend too so I got a few hours work so that has paid for my extra spenditure.
  • I agree, I have a 4 year old and I swear they are spending machines! he needed a new scooter and we have the belief that our money problems are our money problems and should not affect him.. so an ice cream from the ice cream man every now and again when hes been super good, or a McDonalds Happy meal is a huge treat for him, he had such a treat on saturday and loved it.

We do spend a lot for his swimming lessons - have done since he was 4 months old - £~300 a year but at 4 he can do 10 metres if he puts his mind to it and more importantly if he falls in the water he can get back to the side clothed or unclothed to hold on safely! Worth every penny for his safety (and its great fun being in with him as well on a saturday)

Clearing my debts are important to me - and we cut back personal expenses (electricity, gas, food brands, some dearer days out), but we will never cut back on the time we have with Little One as these years are more precious than all the money in the world.

I'm doing this to live. When my debt gets paid off it means that all of the money that comes into my account is mine to do as I please. After struggling really badly at times over the last few years I owe that to myself.

Thanks for this, I have been contemplating it over the weekend.

I don't feel that I desperately wait for the next payday, but neither do it spend money unnecessarily, I make overpayments each month, onto my mum's debts which I took on last year when I became debt free myself. I haven't been making big overpayments as I am spending a week in Las Vegas and New York in June and I have been saving spending money.

If I didn't spend any money at all, I could probably clear my mum's debts in 2/3 months, but I want to live too.

I'm plugging away quietly over here!
As shown above I just transfered £180 to the debt. It would have been more but I had to take £200 from my Emergency Fund to fix my garden fence. So the rest of spare money before payday went to the EF. I feel happy about keeping my EF at £1000 (as per Dave Ramsey's advice) and quite proud of myself that this month I have £380 left before payday. That is a first.

I have a 5 year old and an 11 year old and it's pretty impossible to not spend any money on fun things. The only thing I have deprived myself of is buying new shoes. I have a cash envelope that I'm saving a little in every month for a new pair. This instead of doing what I used to do and just buy without thinking.

    108 here.

There's an element of truth in that, and I do think a positive attitude is helpful. However, sometimes life is just about survival and existing. Maybe it depends on the exact situation a person is experiencing. I know if I'd spent the last few months trying to 'live' I'd have been more acutely aware of the lost days and ended up even more demoralised. By just existing and taking one day at a time I don't worry about them quite so much. When you think the highlight of your day is likely to be switching off the light at night you can't be too disappointed.

Anyway, another payment made today. Now at £5540.79/£10,000. Onwards and upwards!
