Hi all:santa2:
Mojoworking. I remember that film so well. I watched it with my Dad when I was about 9. I cried buckets at the end…and so did my Dad!!! I’ve never seen it since
I think it may have been called something like the Wolfboy…
Further reading tells me you have found the title:o…and I must have watched it around the same time as your friend:rotfl:
Peppapig. I’m sure there is a charity that does backpacks for Christmas with blankets/ socks/ gloves etc Someone on here is bound to know who they are.
I have two very dear friends coming for dinner tomorrow so I popped into Morrisons on the way home for a couple of things. They have half price wine on at £4.99 if anyone is thinking ahead.
I am working on finalising my list of gifts. Not much to get now but loads of things to make.:j:j:j
Happy birthday/ hugs/ healing thoughts to all

Hi all. We picked our secret Santa's in work this week. I got one of the partners, he's an older gentleman and the only thing I know he likes is yoga. I was thinking about getting him a novelty gift related to this, I've found usb sticks in the shape of people in yoga poses but he's old school and prefers paper in files to computers. Do any of you lovelies have any suggestions? Our limit is £5-£10. Thanks in advance.Savings Account - £0.00

Happy Birthday MrsInvisible & anyone else I have missed :bdaycake:
mojo that film sounds heartwrenching, I love a good cry film now and again but I don't know if I could watch that!! Hope your DD has a lovely evening and it stops dry!
peppapig First time I am donating to a food bank tomorrow, purchased some items yesterday. Hoping to make it a regular thing as I too get a bit annoyed with always getting letters. I don't mind the odd thank you or even just an email but lots of paper seems a waste of trees and pennies :money:
I have forgotten what else I was going to comment on, brain is not working now i'm toasty infront of the log burner
Have a wonderful evening everyoneChristmas is the most magical time of the year :santa2:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MRS INVISIBLE - HOPE YOU HAVE A LOVELY DAY
Typical, always someone has to try and spoil the magic. Fortunately I never believe anything I read in the Daily Mail lol :rotfl:
On a more serious note, I usually do special donations to charities in the run up to Christmas but it's so hard to do it anonymously and they keep writing to me all year asking for more money or sending raffle tickets for me to sell and I end up feeling really bad that I can't afford to keep doing it and really cross that they've probably spent my donation writing to me!!!
Anyway, I read somewhere on the internet about buying advent calendars and donating them to foodbanks. The idea is that parents who use the foodbank probably can't spend money on advent calendars so this way the children don't miss out on the magic. I emailed our local foodbank and they replied and said it was a lovely idea and they would happily give them out with food packs for families so I've decided that this will be one of my good deeds for this Christmas. I can buy 10 calendars in Poundland and drop them off at the foodbank.
Another idea I had is that our village does a homeless shelter in the winter (don't think we've actually got any homeless people in our village but it gets used so think people must travel to where the shelter is). Anyway, they said they can always use warm coats, gloves etc., so I thought what about buying a couple of warm coats from the charity shop and giving them to the shelter. That way the charity shop gets some money, a homeless person or two get a coat and I get to feel I might have made a difference - win win!
Long time lurker here, although I think I may have posted once a little while ago.
I love your ideas for charity donations and think I need to borrow these. I always try to donate to local charities that support those worse off than me particularly at Christmas time. The advent calendars in particular appeal to me as although it's such a small thing it will bring so much pleasure to a child.

How about a small towel and water bottle to use during the yoga classes? The microfibre one I bought from home bargains a while ago was about £3-4 and comes in a little net bag.Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27

Evening everyone, DS went to morrisons on the way home from work and got me two tins of sweets for £7 so they are put in the christmas cupboard, i dont mind paying that but i really dont think they are worth a fiver each now there is less in them
PEPPAPIG totally agree about the charities wasting money sending out letters/brochures and even blooming pens, it must cost a fortune especially the price of posting these days. I saw in our village newsletter they were asking for some christmas bits of food, so i am going to get some bits and pieces, i also saw about the advent calendars on facebook so i hope to donate some of them as well, it breaks my heart that some kiddies dont even receive one present and other kiddies get £500 odd pound spent on them, so even if it is just one small thing it makes a difference
MOJOWORKING i bet your friend is dead chuffed at finding it at last
HANLEY oh i really cant think of anything sorry

I am hoping to do this too but no dunelm mills round here. Still sure I'll see a white tree soon enough
I've had such a hectic week at work I'm still catching up (only a week behind now!) but just wanted to say B&M have white pre-lit 3ft-ish trees for £6.99
and congratulations to Freespirit on baby Max, though it's been so long now he's probably walking
Hugs to all xxHobnobs are like marines0 -
Peppapig - they sound like brilliant and lovely ways of supporting charities! Love the advent calendar idea might just have to do that!
We always get all our Chirstmas cards from the RNLI, and do their monthly donation thingthe RNLI actually raises the most money in the midlands. We also always give to air ambulance.
I was in the RAG society and uni and find it's made me a little funny about donating to lots of places, cancer charities being my big one, especially breast cancer, not because they don't need it but because people give to them so willingly, the word cancer makes people empty their pockets without batting an eyelid... but anything a little different and you had to talk the money out of them "why do they need my money", meningitis research, stroke association, mind, trying to raise money for them was like trying to draw blood from a stone. I tend to think, the charities that need it most are the ones who can't afford to advertise, I also like to look out UK charities. Something like 1 in 5 children live in poverty in the UK, yet most of our Children charities do most of their work outside of the UK... yes the level of poverty across the world is much much greater than here but I don't think that that makes it ok for children in this country on our doorsteps to go without meals, or heating.
anyway off my soap box haha.
I spent this evening in A&E with a friend after she got knocked off her bike by someone on another bike, and they just drove off! Shes fine, bruised and shaken up but nothing broken luckily.
xI hope you know your capable, & brave, & significant.

I previously donated £10 a month to the Retired Greyhound Trust but stopped after 18 month or so as I was swamped with extra begging letters, I also donate to The Dogs' Trust and get the same. Yesterday I saw that a friend who runs a small animal sanctuary (Ark On The Edge) was very worried about the winter, so I've set up a direct debit for her. I will get far more info about how the money is used, knowing that it is my little bit of cash that is helping a bit and how it is helping.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again...
