Mojoworking wrote: »Wondering if any of my Christmas lovelies can help. My friend wants to find an old Christmas film that might be called Christmas Tree. It was about a young boy with leukemia and he wants wolves for Christmas and his dad gets them hides them in the basement but when the mum and dad come home from a Christmas eve party they are howling in the cellar and the boy has died by the tree. It sounds horrific to me but my friend swears it ws a great movie. She says shes searched ebay and amazon and although there are films called tye Christmas Tree it is never that one. Can anyone point me in the right direction please.
On a more uplifting note dd is taking part in the lantern parade tonight that is part of the Christmas switch on. Hoping the weather picks up as it should be fabulous.
Junior j I think your an inspiration and freespirit your just a lovely person and everyone else who keep s this thread alive and moving and are so caring and warm. For us lurkers you are little twinkles of Christmas lights all year round which is a bigger compliment than rays of sunshine in my opinion. Thank you all x x x x
Mojo, that film does sound awful, I'm sure you've probably already come across this but this is the only one I can think of

Although it does sound awful it's actually got rave reviews. Have done a quick search on Sky & it doesn't appear to be on soon but will keep an eye out.
I'm not good with tear tearjerkers though... I can't even watch the end of Toy Story 3!!0 -

Typical, always someone has to try and spoil the magic. Fortunately I never believe anything I read in the Daily Mail lol :rotfl:
On a more serious note, I usually do special donations to charities in the run up to Christmas but it's so hard to do it anonymously and they keep writing to me all year asking for more money or sending raffle tickets for me to sell and I end up feeling really bad that I can't afford to keep doing it and really cross that they've probably spent my donation writing to me!!!
Anyway, I read somewhere on the internet about buying advent calendars and donating them to foodbanks. The idea is that parents who use the foodbank probably can't spend money on advent calendars so this way the children don't miss out on the magic. I emailed our local foodbank and they replied and said it was a lovely idea and they would happily give them out with food packs for families so I've decided that this will be one of my good deeds for this Christmas. I can buy 10 calendars in Poundland and drop them off at the foodbank.
Another idea I had is that our village does a homeless shelter in the winter (don't think we've actually got any homeless people in our village but it gets used so think people must travel to where the shelter is). Anyway, they said they can always use warm coats, gloves etc., so I thought what about buying a couple of warm coats from the charity shop and giving them to the shelter. That way the charity shop gets some money, a homeless person or two get a coat and I get to feel I might have made a difference - win win! It's the most wonderful timeof the year :0 -

We keep getting mail from the dogs trust. We've contacted them numerous times to explain that the donation we gave them three years ago was in lieu of flowers after a death and we'd rather they spend the money on the dogs than keep sending us glossy brochures in the mail! We'll see if they have now finally got the message. Seems such a waste.
We send a cheque or a gift to a local animal rescue home every Christmas. They were the people who looked after Blossom's family after we found them. Her sister is still there as she's quite wild and doubtful anyone will home her. But the lady there obviously cares a lot for her and even a small donation helps feed the animals. We get no contact about more money and she's got a wish list on amazon, so it's easy to pick up something there and get it sent to her directly.
The coats for homeless shelter is a good idea. You've also reminded me that I need to see if our local one wants any crockery for Christmas meals. I read about it last year but it was too late to sort anything out. We have been meaning to get some new plates etc and as the old set is missing bits, I can't take it to a charity shop, but they may find it useful at a homeless shelter as there will be more mouths to feed over Christmas.
Glad the Christmas film has been tracked down. Why do they confuse us by giving it a different name sometimes?
Happy birthday Mrs Invisable!

It's festive and Christmassy without all the Santa/lights/reindeer/elf stuff. Worth a watch! Thanks Irishrose (assuming that I was watching the film you recommended. There seems to be a few films with that title)
This is the one I was recommending http://www.amazon.co.uk/Christmas-Wish-DVD-Kirsty-Swanson/dp/B006N9I4LY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1415383103&sr=8-2&keywords=christmas+wishOn a more serious note, I usually do special donations to charities in the run up to Christmas but it's so hard to do it anonymously and they keep writing to me all year asking for more money or sending raffle tickets for me to sell and I end up feeling really bad that I can't afford to keep doing it and really cross that they've probably spent my donation writing to me!!!
That's why I send to the PostPals children, and also at Christmas time our local shopping center has a Christmas tree in the middle of the floor, with a gift tag on the branch of each tree with Boy or Girl written on it and the age, you then donate a gift for that child and leave it at customer services. I always choose 4 for myself and get the children to choose 1 each.
I read about the advent calendar thing too. I did do a search for Belfast but couldn't find any info on it so will go look again.
The 2 eldest schools always do a charity thing at Christmas too. One people is hampers for the elderly and the other is a shoebox appeal for old people somewhere foreign, I want to say it's Medjugorje but I may be wrong lol.
Not much Christmas prep done here this past few days. But plan to get a few bits and pieces done this weekend
