What a wonderful idea Trendyjenny. Something to trigger further ideas perhaps:-
    "I didn't spend a penny,
On this Christmas gift you see,
Cos everything that's in this box,
Was Buy One, Get One Free".
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.
  • What are your thoughts on this?

I generally give token gifts to those in my Arabic class but was getting a bit stuck on what to do this year. Suddenly thought this morning that I have small loaf tins so what about making Christmas cakes? Do you think that we need to conform to square or round cakes?

I won't be able to feed some for religious reasons, but I will simply decorate/wrap them differently, although I am not sure what to do to keep them moist enough.
A smile costs little but creates much :)
  • Morning all! I popped in a few times on the previous post, hope it is ok to drop by again. I don’t get much time to post, but I do tryto have a quick catch up when I can. This morning I do actually have a few minutes, so I just had to let my fellow Christmas lovelies know that the John Lewis Christmas advert is out.

starlet1990 - YAY costa drinks :D I actually had a black forest hot chocolate last week, already in Christmas mode :)

Ruth_honey - I hope it doesn't take that long to find my coat... haha!

newthrift - china cabinet into shoe cabinet sounds a great idea. I toyed with the idea of having shelves on my wall for the prettiest ones but then I decided they would just get dusty :( but something like that would definitely work! Going to keep an eye out now :D

Gettingtherequickly - I've heard of using cold tea in fruit cakes... maybe an alcohol alternative :) as for shape, I don't think it matters, loaf shaped fruit cakes will always have a special place for me though, my nanny used to make the best fruit cakes, (extra cherries ;)), a big round one for them, a square one for my aunt and uncle, and one in a little loaf tin for me, mine was always the last out of the bowl too so I got more cherries :D.

I hope you know your capable, & brave, & significant.

Lovely idea, and no I don't think the cake shape matters. Could you give them a bit of a feed with orange juice instead maybe?

If you're not making them alcoholic for religious reasons then will you need to make sure they're vegetarian as well? I'm thinking of halal rules and any animal fat or other products there might be in a recipe, I've never made a Christmas cake so I'm not certain if anything like that might go into it.

As long as there no gelatin, it will be fine. Think I may be doing quite a bit of baking at the weekend:D
