Thank you everyone for the advice. I think I'll do the elves as usual and if DS has questions I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. I feel a lot more relaxed about it all after hearing from all of you.
DS has only just got his first wobbly tooth this week so I hope he doesn't find out the truth about the tooth fairy before he's had any "visits" but again if he does then I will explain it all to him honestly. I think I'm just panicking unnecessarily about loosing the magic. Kids grow up far too quickly!
Thanks again all.Savings Account - £0.00

I'm really sad reading on here about your children at 7-9 etc not believing in the tooth fairy or Santa anymore
It's not very common here in N.Ireland or ROI actually for kids at that age to find out the truth. I myself was 10 when I found out the truth!
I work in a Primary school and the majority of our Primary 7's (10-11 years old) still believe in Santa, and those who don't don't tell others or make fun of them.
I know quite a few parents who have had to tell their children the truth before they go off to Secondary/Grammar school!
Here where I live it's a big thing and parents everywhere keep the belief going. And many are gutted if someone else tells their children. We have actually had parents complain to the school about other children telling their's the truth!
One parent actually named and shamed 2 parents last year and said if they wanted to ruin their own children's childhood then that was their choice, but don't ruin the rest of the childrens. The principal in my son's school called a parent in last year and told them to tell their son not to be telling anyone else and it was upsetting the other children.
We make a big fuss in our school about Santa, he comes to visit us and gives us a gift every year, same in my children's schools. And my own Christmas elf visited the school last year. My Principal asked me to keep an eye out for 15 cheap elves - one for each class as we all had lots of fun last year pmsl. I've managed to get time off work tomorrow - Principal has arranged it specially so that I can go down to The Card Factory to buy our elves and a few other bits and pieces. She phoned down today and asked if we could get them kept over and manager was more than happy to do soQuite a few teachers have also got some reserved lol.
If any of my kids come and ask me about Santa being real or not then I'll keep it going as long as I can. But I won't be telling them the truth until I have to. And it's quite common for parents to do that here where I live.Pay all debt off by Christmas 2025 £815.45/£3,000£1 a day challenge 2025 - £180/£730 Declutter a bag a week in 2025 11/52Lose 25lb - 10/25lbs Read 1 book per week - 5/52Pay off credit card debt 18%/100%0 -
Hanley - my CD is also 7 and been put in mixed class like you DS, mine have mentioned a few times that tooth fairy, Santa not real, they know it's me and its mainly my DS aged 5 who says it. I have said similar to others that if you say that she/he may not come and due to all children in the world mummys have to help Santa.
I love the magic of it all, I'm sure some1 will comment to my daughter as some in her class are too grown up for their own good but the thought that when older she will have fantastic memories I will be doing it again.
I hope to pass elf on for her to use for he own children but that's so many years away lol but it's a fantastic tradition0 -

Thanks again all.
We lived in a different area when dd1 was younger, and she attended a small catholic primary, and as a result didn't even question Santa until she was almost 10!
Dd2 attends a large school, with mixed religions etc, and I guess it is inevitable she will encounter nonbelievers at a much earlier age. I'm hoping we get another Xmas before she questions us.It's not about getting what you want, It's about wanting what you get.0 -

:rotfl: Maybe that's what it is then. We are Catholic and my kids are at catholic schools. I work in a Catholic school too lol. I was disgusted last year when my niece and nephew came home for Christmas from England and they didn't believe in Santa. They were 6 and 8:mad:
Lets just say my sister and Bro-in-law got some lessons in creative stories to stretch the truth. And niece and nephew were soon put straight that no such talk was to happen in my house, or I would cry:rotfl:
They soon learnt, put the EOTS DVD on and Mr Elf here had lots of fun annoying them. So much so that they did genuinely begin to question us 2 days before Christmas Eve if Santa was real. They near had a heart attack when our elf "disappeared" on Christmas Eve leaving them a note to say he'd be back next year lol. No child in my house under 10 will not believe in Santa, I'm sorry. Children know and are taught way too much these days and their innocence is taken away near enough once they start walking and talking. Not in this house!Pay all debt off by Christmas 2025 £815.45/£3,000£1 a day challenge 2025 - £180/£730 Declutter a bag a week in 2025 11/52Lose 25lb - 10/25lbs Read 1 book per week - 5/52Pay off credit card debt 18%/100%0 -

Aw the kids loved it so much, the teachers even enjoyed it lol. We even had him sitting in the dinner hall at one stage :rotfl:
Kids both young and old loved him, and we all went to the Assembly Hall one afternoon after our Christmas Play and put the EOTS DVD on the big screen, the hall was silent!! It was amazing.
The older kids - some of whom still believed or were thinking about it were joining in the fun. They were taking the wee one's around the school looking for him etc :rotfl:
It definitely brought the Christmas spirit and excitement to school and parents were asking what it was all about. Some managed to get some elves on sale afterwards.
Head is letting me out early to run into town to pick them up - as well as print photos off that we need for Thursday, so it's all business, it's only an hour really as when kids go home I can head straight in.Pay all debt off by Christmas 2025 £815.45/£3,000£1 a day challenge 2025 - £180/£730 Declutter a bag a week in 2025 11/52Lose 25lb - 10/25lbs Read 1 book per week - 5/52Pay off credit card debt 18%/100%0 -
mrs-moneypenny Sounds like your household is a little like ours
I'm 25, my little sister 18, and neither of us have ever dared even hint that Father Christmas isn't real in front of mum lol. My mum still gets FOUR different sets of wrapping paper, one for us each for mum and dad presents and father Christmas always has cartoony or disney wrapping paper one design each again. Because when 6 years old someone *a brilliantly clever someone* was very put out that her bike from Father Christmas was wrapped in mum and dads wrapping paper! The cheek of it coming down the chimney and stealing mum and dads wrapping paper!! Pfft! haha.
Oh and only daft people cotton on to the tooth fairy, me and mum swapped dads tooth that had come out from where he'd left it on the bedside table (why it was there I don't know...) for a pound coin a few months ago... We did have to MAKE him check under his pillow, and he wasn't very amused... lol.
xI hope you know your capable, & brave, & significant.

I actually LOVE you! Just got Mulan for my DD that she has wanted for ages and Frozen (for me) I was resigned to only buying her Mulan to stick within my budget as it ranged between 10 and 15 (kept checking to see if I could find bargains not pre owned) Thank you Soooooo much!
I was in Hawkins Bazaar yesterday and got their version of this http://www.hamleys.com/marvins-magic-lights-from-anywhere-junior.ir
For £6 - very happy with that. Its just in a smaller box. Either way my DD is complete now once I get her Insect set up. Just her basket/stocking Im doing but thats going to be bought over the weeks from £land trips etc. Phew!
As for the santa is real thing I was over the moon when my youngest was told it was not as she thought (I wont say not real because well, it is real if you do what he is meant to do) my ex had left us high and dry the year before stopped contributing to the kids upkeep so I was so pleased not to give the credit for my scrimping to an old bloke who got my thank you letters!! Saying no to every treat and sweet just to give them birthday and Christmas was so hard from the life we had before so it was a relief when they realised it was all me.I'd have liked it not to be that way though but would not change a thing now.Life happens, live it well.0
