Oh ABBAFAN tell me about it, we spend so long preparing for it and before you know its all over and we are in the new year, when i was younger i think everywhere just shut down for two weeks so it seemed to last longer than it did, now people are straight back to work

I remember a 2 week shut down when I was younger too. The sales started on January 1st and the only shops open on Boxing Day were corner shops. Mind you, Christmas morning (if it wasn't raining) the streets and parks were busy with children on new bikes, roller skates and pushing toy prams (not cooped up indoors on electronic gadgets).

    Those were the days... :D

Nitnurse - thanks for the beads idea - great thought.

Junior - thanks for the tip off - I might make sweets using those polystyrene bits like Wotsits and cover in cellophane - lots of super ideas - thanks.

welcome to all the new newbies nice to see lots of new posters

freespirit well done on completing your challanges
junior-j hope things resolve themselves quickly & your not suffering too much. always admire how you cope so well
ruth honey thanks for the tip re halfords managed to grab a few bits

not much happening here at the mo mainly as far too tired to be bothered ds didn't go to bed till gone midnight again  that's 3 days in a row he's refused to give in and go to sleep and hes still getting up before 6 so one very overtired grumpy toddler.

have a huge list of things I "need" to get done this yr so think I'm gonna have 3-4 long term goals and then pick a couple each month off the rest of the list. thinking that seems far more doable and hopefully I'll achieve a lot more as otherwise I just seem to put stuff off and it never gets done :o. my biggest must do is lose weight I know I could do it but I keep yoyo'ing the same 7-10lbs just find it so hard to stick to a plan on my own.

hope everyone who's not well feels better soon
this year do something that scares you for courage is not the absence of fear just the knowledge that some things are worth the risk

I do exactly the same! Too much needs doing means aaahh do very little.
I'm thinking of trying to find one of those desk diaries/ pads, that has days of the week on it and you can write to do lists in the days... does that make any sense? lol.
I saw them online somewhere but not a clue where *googles* - kinda like this - http://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/164826787/instant-download-printable-daily-planner?ref=market
but I saw a pad of them... might end up making my own and using postits to make my lists, I do love postits...

Also re the not sticking to a plan on your own, of course theres Slimming world and weight watchers, but I use Myfitnesspal.com, it also has a free phone app, you can log your weight, food, exercise, anything. And all the people are so lovely! And even though more often than not they are the other side of the world (lots in America) they really hold me accountable, I show my food to friends, and people will give advice without judging :) . I say this, I logged in for the first time in 2 months yesterday :o!

Happy New Year one and all :)

The tree and all other decorations are down and away :( Already think I am having withdrawal symptoms but have left a few glittery window stickers up in the kitchen window to take down on the 6th.

So disappointed with the supermarkets this year. Got some 'Frosted Fancies' for 30p per box so kept 3 and gave three to my parents. They are good until 9th Jan and perfect for lunches however I haven't managed to get my usual mini/individual Christmas puddings or anything else so nothing in for next year yet - so saddening for me!

Bf is heading off to his Rio prep camp tomorrow so I will use my evening to do a couple of loads of laundry then on Saturday shall get all that cleared an away and start planning the important things - the craft projects I want to complete for Christmas 2014! I'm thinking of jewellery rolls for my mum and bf's mum and a blanket for our baby girl due in March plus some Christmas bunting for the kitchen next year. Not planning anything past those though so will see what I have in my stash over this weekend.

Bf is away a lot this month (20 days minimum!) and I want to use the evenings to get hyper organised for the coming year. I know I am taking 6 months maternity leave but I want to get a few new processes etc in place before then so I can keep some level of routine!

Think next year I will suggest a joint gift each for my mum and dad, bf's mum and dad and bf's middle brother and his missus. Something like a date in a box so maybe film vouchers (to buy a dvd/similar of their choice) plus some popcorn, sweet treats and drinks etc. That may turn in to a bit of a 'family' gift for brother+his. I might do it alongside regular gifts (as it would only need a £10 gift card plus some bargain treats!

  • Phew - back from the shops - totally shattered.

Managed to get from Card Factory - 4 boxes of cards 50p each (2 for Mum) and 4 rolls of quite nice paper 50p each (2 for Mum). These will just top up what we have left over.

In Boots I got a gym toiletries set for nephew to go with his money for his Jan birthday (reduced to £7). I also got neice (birthday Feb) a Sanctuary nail/manicure set reduced to £7 and a Loreal Deorderant doo dah for DS (half price (1.35?) - used Advantage points for the last two things. Will probably give the Boots gift sets to DS to give to his cousins as he never knows what to get them and I always seem to get better deals than him.

Bought myself some Rimmel Wake Up Anti Fatigue Foundation for £4.98 in Savers. It doesn't promise miracles but I had better give something a try (need all the help I can get) :D

Well that's about all I managed - nothing really exciting but it's a start.

    Take care everyone

  • Thank you for the replies. It's not until tomorrow, I'm 50% extremely scared and 50% fine about it.

I have been seeing the dentist for 6 months now & have some of my courage back, before I would cross a road if there was a dentist building there! So you can imagine the small steps I took to going! Had to just walk past one first, then stand outside for a while, then stand inside. Then register with a dentist (think that was the hardest one, filling in that form knowing I had to go!) then I eventually went etc

My dentist is lovely, she wanted me to get them cleaned by someone else the other day and I said nooo. Has to be her now.

I went to have my teeth out under sedation but I was in such a state they wouldn't do it! I don't know why, I was in the chair, they could have done it! But they refused, saying i was too scared, so they did a filling and referred me to the hospital to have them both out under general anaesthetic. I was really pleased as I was told they wouldn't do that, I have had 2 generals before and they don't worry me at all. So hopefully tomorrow by this time I will be home and it will all be over but like I said before the letter makes it seem like it's just a consultation this time :( will let you all know when I'm back eeek.

On the plus side, I went out for lunch with a friend today just in case it does happen tomorrow and I won't be able to eat properly for a while. Nice BBQ smothered chicken :) I'm ready for lots of soup now (& hopefully some weight loss that may come with it!) fingers crossed!

Love de-cluttering, to the point I don't really own much anymore. :rotfl:

2014 IS going to be a good year :j

I am actually going through a Christmas depression, I really can't get over the fact it's all over. Tree and decs are all gone, all outside lights are down :( I'm so gutted.

Me too, took my decorations down today too (well yesterday now). I'd have done it before New Year but OH wanted them left up for that, it feels wrong to me and I prefer them down for NYE/NYD. I'm properly upset that it's all over! We need something else to look forward to, to keep us going until it's closer to next Christmas.

    Welcome PLODDINGALONG.

I know how you feel, a touch of the post-Christmas blues has arrived here too. I think it's because I look forward to it all year (hangover from childhood) then it's all over in a flash and then it's a whole year to wait for the next time. Once we get further into the month and I start thinking about spring I'll be fine.
i have done all challenges from DS today
    1. Complete a Sudoku puzzle
    2. Write down my NY resolutions
    3. Walk route 1 (400m)
    4. Write down 10 things i am grateful for
(sorry if i bore anyone but i thought if i type them on here each day a) it gives me extra incentive and b) it will make me feel doubly good when i complete them) all part and parcel of my therapy.

Woo hoo! Go Freespirit!!! I think it's great that you're posting your progress on here, it means we all get to share in your achievements. :)

In support of my aim to get another bike this year and start riding again I had a look at the bikes in Halfords today. I'm seriously thinking of going for a 'girls' bike rather than a 'womens' because the wheels are the old 26" size rather than the 700 size of the others - I'm only 5ft tall and although I can easily fit a 14" adult frame, the wheels seem huge and it puts me off lol. Think I need to save up a few more pennies first although I'll keep an eye on ebay too as I'll be quite happy with a secondhand one.
It's the most wonderful timeof the year :

freespirit how did it go? I'm no where near finished but progress has been made I've got some tops and other clothes for the charity shop and some shoes too, I've sorted out underwear to go to the bin too even socks which is a big deal for me lol. Swept a little too, tomorrow's aim is to get the Hoover up here too so that I can get some sneaky cobwebs!!!!

Would anyone be interested in a box of samples all sorts of brands I bought them to use as stocking fillers but mum is strictly lush now and I suppose I am too.

    Love and hugs to all
