  • Oooh Also, Im after a bit of advice for christmas crackers. I got some Make your own packets in Wilko last year and I'm wondering what to put in them. There will be 7 of us in total for dinner, 6 of us are adults then my DD who is 5. I will get her something easily to put in her cracker but I'm struggling for the adults. I'm wondering whether to do a £1 scratch card and maybe a small chocolate in each?

Does anyone have any better ideas? xx

My DD2 made crackers last year and she put a yankee candle votive in mine and chocolates or miniature bottles of booze in the others hth

The Christmas £1 scratch cards are good though you have to buy them early as they seem to sell out, I get the Christmas pudding single boxed chcolates fm Thorntons :-) and tiny Lindt reindeer for those who dont want anything with alcohol x
  • Not had time to check in properly, my bomb site is getting there, but nearly as fast as I would like. It has now all been made worse by the fact that my mum is coming over for my cousin's funeral. My brother & I know her, so knew it would be fly over Wednesday and back Friday. Except my sister decided to get involved and booked the flights - result flies in Wednesday to Luton, local to my sister so staying there, but being dumped on me from Thursday for flight back from Gatwick on Sunday  I love my mum, but sis knew I have builders in, so now trying to get some shape, temporarily, so that mum has a bed to sleep in. I didn't need this as I already had committments for Friday which I can't get out of. Bro & I trying to re-arrange our lives to suit my sister  And breath:)

Our admin girl came back from Marks earlier with a box of Belgian choccies, reduced from £6 to £3, expiry Feb next year, so will go off to get some as stocking fillers & token gifts. Hopefully, that will help me start to feel a bit more organised, but losing the will until I have some semblance of order at home.

Hugs for all those who need them, you know we would take any stress willingly.

Oh it's all getting so Christmassy and exciting in here! :j

I actually felt really Christmassy this morning as it was so chilly and definitely felt more like autumn than summer.

I tend to start present buying in September, and I'm pleased to say that I've got 2 things for hubby that I really didn't expect or plan to, both of which I know he'll absolutely love :T

I got him a wood carving set of tools from Lidl for £20, and a weed burner with several extra cans of gas for £26.95. I'm so pleased because he can be really difficult to buy for and these were much more expensive elsewhere. I had originally planned to use my Amazon credit and avoid spending actual cash wherever possible, but these were too good an opportunity to miss. Unfortunately I'm currently having to store the weed burner next to my desk at work as there is nowhere to store it in our house without hubby finding it! Not sure what my colleagues must think of me :rotfl:

    Hi Arthien,

The Taste of Christmas mugs are Ruth Honey's idea:

.... have made up a 'Taste of Christmas' mug for my Auntie.

    Put in some sachets of

    - winter spice hot chocolate,
    - mulled spice tea,
    - gingerbread latte and
    - camomile & spiced apple tea

The gingerbread latte sachets and the camomile and spiced apple tea sachets can already be bought from Tesco. I have also bought the Irish Coffee latte sachets. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for the other two items. And I was thinking of adding 3 / 4 chocolate coins and a candy cane.

These travel mugs are reduced to £1.25 in my local Tesco, so I will be using those for the Taste of Christmas mugs

Ahh, thanks for this! I thought I'd heard of the idea on the thread before, but I didn't have time to search for it. I saw those mugs in T today, as well as a load of the 50p chocoholic ones, so plenty of opportunity for people to get them if they're planning on doing this :T
  • Same with my 14yo, I got Rooneys biography and Rio Ferdinands fm Amazon x

Although he is a West Ham supporter my DS (13) asked for Sir Alex Ferguson's biography last Christmas.

  • Hello,

Chrissy thank you for the lucky 6pnce link =D its fab.

I think I am brewing a chest infection, its been a struggle today - typical!

Had a mooch in the works and got 3 books for 25p each! It was lovely seeing all the Christmas stuff coming out in dribs and drabs but I saw nothing that took my fancy. I did get a couple of things in £land for my great neice though. Its really only token stuff but very cute. Have no idea what to get my great nephew though he is 4 and very bright. Im thinking a puzzle or something, any ideas anyone?

My Christmas films are all the sloppy ones on 24 or true movies, the ones where santa's son looks for a wife or the will they wont they ones. Of the more popular films I like

    Jack Frost
    polar express
    Nightmare before Christmas
    White Christmas
    Holiday Inn
    Elf
    Miracle on 34nd st
    Christmas with the cranks

And my DD likes Christmas oranges - its dire but the moral is nice.

My biggest problem buy this year though is my other half. We have only been together for a year in November and his Bday is shortly after. We have not really done gifts as yet. How much do I even begin to think about spending?
