Not too far from galleries, museums, music gigs, canals and steam railways, alternative scenes, restaurants, housing not too expensive.

Thinking ..............Ramsbottom then!!

Love Ramsbottom! I'm currently down the road in Tottington.
AFM I think I'd opt for Christchurch or Padstow, remember them both being lovely.0 -
Brighton
Great place with lots to do
By the sea
Fast access to London
Easy access to the Continent
Surrounded by lovely countryside
Prices to match0 -
The southern city I used to live in...as it was 30 years ago ...and with me living where I had thought I would be by now (ie moved up the housing ladder and moved to the 2nd best area there...as I'm not too keen on the best area).
My city has changed so much though and, in the main, for the worse. It has become vastly over-developed and that trend is still continuing and many of the people who have moved into the area aren't that concerned with keeping it in its OWN character any more (come from other parts of the country or other countries).
So...wind back the clock on that city and give me the money to bridge the gap upwards from my starter house to A Home and I probably wouldn't have moved.
Not happy I felt forced to move...but needs must and I'm making a new life for myself here and reminding myself that learning experiences are A Good Thing.0 -
According to the linked article Bristol is "best".
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/10386993/Bristol-is-best-city-to-live-in-the-UK.htmlIn case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0 -
Devon or Cornwall, probably Devon as not so bad to get to the bright lights of London for occasional visits. Husband would like Swanage in Dorset, his favourite place in the whole world!
I used to live in Essex and Surrey, really wouldn't want to live there again.....
Most definitely not Bristol (sister lives near by, horrible place)0 -
Another vote for Devon.
I'm a Londoner by birth and have always insisted that I "need" to live within 40 mins or less train commute of London....... I must have finally grown up as I no longer feel the need to !!I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -

The millionare bit would be nice, but living around here has its pit falls as well, Its really great when its quiet and not yet tourist season, but the minute summer hits and you want to get out and enjoy it all the roads get all congested, rammed packed full of tourists and its a PITA to get around doing day to day stuff.
But that said I can see the appeal.
Personally my Partner and I would like to move back up towards London, while I admit it has its own faults, it offers us both much more employment opportunities, especially for myself.
It just a shame its so expensive and not likely to happen0
