For me, Grange-Over-Sands, Cumbria - close to the Lake District so I can go fell-walking and taking photographs, yet also close enough to the M6 should I want to go elsewhere in the country.
Failing that, anywhere else within 5-10 miles of the National Park boundary will suffice.
Another 3-5 years and I should be ready, cash in bank, to go looking.
  • Needs:
    Good scenery, walks, outdoors
    Good tansport links
Not too far from galleries, museums, music gigs, canals and steam railways, alternative scenes, restaurants, housing not too expensive.

People that socialise. speak and SMILE.....

Ramsbottom is indeed a nice place to live, and we certainly considered it before finally choosing Hebden Bridge for basically similar amenities and quality of life.
