Silver sevens used to be Terribles, yes its cheap but given the choice between downtown and SS I would choose downtown
While it was Terribles, I had a cockroach run over my foot while doing a number two.....avoid.

    Hello All!

My question is - as my wife and I didn't make it to down town in Vegas, would this far less expensive option be good for two guys to travel to? Separate beds, in one room. The inexpensive alcohol, food and less expensive gambling appeals to us quite well.

    QUOTE]

I have not stayed in a hotel downtown before but there is a very good (and cheap) hotel 1 mile east of the strip called Silver Sevens. It ticks all of your boxes. The premium rooms are very nice. I usually book through Expedia. You can get good cashback rates through Topcashback.

I feel like a broken record......but check out the Orleans or the Gold Coast. Just off strip with a free shuttle to and from the Strip until midnight (cab after midnight $10 max) huge rooms with seperate sitting area so good for two singles as more room to spread yourselves-midweek rates can run as low as $29. If you intend to spend more time on Strip in the night-time rather than Freemont Street it's a better option. Lots of eating options at non Strip prices ,

Have any of you stayed at the Monte Carlo ?
if so, do you recall the pool area getting sunshine all day, or does it get blocked out (shade) by the buildings ? (going in May...)
  • also be aware that even if the dates that you are wanting are showing available on the reward calendar, in some instances when you call the redemption line, the hotels myvegas room allocation for those dates may have already been used up/sold out

Does anyone know what happens in this instance? Do you get your LPs refunded to your My Vegas account?

I originally booked 7 nights in The Cosmo for August but now I'm thinking I can get a decent deal using LPs to add on a few nights, even with the £200 cost of changing my flight with Virgin. Looking at Mandalay Bay and /or Aria at the moment.

You get the LP's refunded easy peasy...
Only time you cant get a refund for hotel rooms is when you actually book and confirm the room.....

Lots of peeps 'purchase' rewards, have it sit in there reward bank for 2 months, then cancel to get LP's back and look for other stuff, etc etc....

I think there's a time limit on requesting a refund as well...hubby lost some LPs early on thinking that if he didn't use the Secret Garden reward he had bought the points would go back automatically and apparently that wasn't the case...he had to request the return.

Just something to watch out for.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

I've not but it is on the list. I've been told it attracts an "older" holidaymaker so it might not appeal to you and your mates though Stuie.

    LP's & Rewards = 90 days...
Must use within 90 days (unless booking a show/Hotel)
If you don't use, you lose! They can be refunded within those 90 days....

Duchy, taking the wife on the Vegas trip, gone are my wild days ! :D:D:D
Well, I just booked the Monte Carlo with LowCostUsa....
    May 28th - 5 nights = £220 (inc R Fee)....

We did Monte Carlo in September (hey Duchy - thanks for making me feel old*! :p:p:p:p:D ) - I posted the following mini-review after staying there - have a gander:

Unless you plan to be at the pool pre-10am('ish), you will find a sunny spot - from memory, a lot was in the shade prior to that :) if you head to the spot in the far corner from the entrance (the other side of the wave pool) you will be in the sun from early till late IIRC

Whilst I think, just a word or warning re: your checkin a day late (if that's what you're doing?)... make sure you liaise with the hotel and make sure that they know you will be doing this :) (just say you're having car problems or something will be an easy / quick conversation!). I expect MC will have rooms, but if they are busy, they could give your booking away (at least that's the way things usually work) - had a quick google and found this that seems to recommend the same ---> unless you're in Vegas on the 28th and were going to checkin that day anyways of course!:

edit: * for the record, I was born in the 80's (though only just :D lol ) so I probably am old now-a-days :( haha
