  • personally would stay in the same place and upgrade for the last few nights , saves trapsing to a new hotel , stay at somewhere you have previously stayed ( ideally a resort fee less place )

For 12 nights I would definitely split it, perhaps north and south strip for 6 nights each or 8 and 4.

With that budget you could get a reasonable hotel then splurge for the last few nights. I can highly recommend a terrace room or above at the Cosmopolitan. Check https://www.lowcostusa.co.uk who usually have better rates for high end hotels than you can get elsewhere.

We like to shop, eat, drink and gamble on the slots and he likes to go for a few games in the poker rooms. We are not fussed about pools, spas or nightclubs.

He is nearly 40 and I'll be 51 when we go - if that matters?:rotfl:

My question is this - I have given us a £1000 budget for accommodation but can't decide on how to use it. What would you do? Budget for the first week and then splurge for the last 3 or 4 nights? Good room in a lesser hotel? Basic room in a fancy hotel?

I am normally very good at organising our holidays but I have got myself in a right muddle with this one! Your opinions are appreciated, thank you :)

You arrive on a Saturday night, so why not stay downtown for 2-3 nights which should be reasonably priced compared to the strip. There are also lower cost food and drink options there.

For shopping you could fully explore Premium Outlets during that time saving you a longer bus/taxi trip if staying mid to bottom of the strip.

I've also used LowCostUsa and some of their rooms have resort fee included - Bellagio and Mirage are two.

I'd love to go for 13 nights so enjoy !

I'm there from the 3rd of August to the 11th. Conveniently so I can see Justin timberlake at the MGM grand during that week!

I'm sad to say MrsMcP slept for at least 30 minutes at JT in November :o
I'm sure I dropped off too just before the encore.....

That said he did put on a good show but was maybe 1 show too many for us on our last night.

Thanks for advice about lowcostusa, luci and jadamcp. I've had a look and their prices are very good aren't they! I'd have never thought to stay downtown so will look at the options for the first couple of nights, like you say they may be reasonably priced - all the more to spend on the splurge hotel and shopping!
Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it!!

agree with this...splurging for the last night is a nice thing to do...if we're going to move rooms we would also move hotels as the faff of packing up wouldn't be worth it to us to move to another room in the same hotel...and moving somewhere else means a different experience. We used to be terribly opposed to moving but so many people here doing it made us try it and now we move every trip. Last few trips have been Paris->Cosmo (not much of a move in terms of location but still), Ballys->TI a few times...next trip is Caesars->? Maybe Cosmo..maybe TI. But we aren't huge fans of MGM properties so south strip is mostly not on our radar.

Also agree on the terrace room at Cosmo...which I also would never have considered if not for this thread.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

+ 1 for cosmo and for splitting
    also + 1 for downtown.

This year we have 9 nights, first 3 at Golden Nugget, next three at Vdara on their offer with free show tickets and the last 3 nights at Mirage - 2 of which @$42 per night via MyVegas - just have to find a good rate for the last night.....

...and I haven't sorted my car hire yet so that's on the cards for this weekend.

GN +++ :):) Good to stay there for the experience of downtown (we did 2 nights there last year).

I'm still half and half about booking Vdara..... Original plan was to do the remaining 8 nights in 1 hotel, but now plan to do 4 nights & 4 nights.... but still got a budget, plan was to aim for 4 nights in Luxor again (cos we like the pool, not the hotel!), and then maybe Vdara, based on it being 5*, and the pool looking OK from outer space (Google earth ! :D:D:D )
The 4 nights Vdara would be Thurs to Mon (May 29th) so got that weekend rush going on, and sunbathing ALL day is our thing!..

I'm just trying to read as much info as I can on finding out if the pool becomes too crowded that you cant use it, etc etc!

Thanks for the suggestions. Finally took the plunge and booked Luxor for 4 nights through booking.com for $316 then tax and resort fee on top but went through Topcashback, then having a night at the Best Western Plus Frontier Motel at Lone Pine for £72 through expedia. I think the amount of choice is so overwhelming in LV that I felt a bit like a rabbit caught in headlights. Now planning the rest of the hotels for Yosemite, Monterrey and SF. Roll on August!:D

While I love the Vdara for other reasons, I've never seen it recommended for its pool. Probably the main complaint I've read in fact. Death ray reports aside.
