Thank you for the brilliant review Alictait
After reading about NYE I think it's made up my mind that Vegas probably isn't ideal for us then. Simply because OH is not bothered about NYE at all and would probably want to be inside doing something fun whilst I love watching fireworks and would probably want to be on the strip and doing both could be hard if the places are really busy and compromising may be difficult. The idea of the atmosphere being a bit rubbish also puts me off as I love the party atmosphere and happiness that NYE can bring and being somewhere without that would make me disappointed.
For example, for all my single years, my best friends and I would do the pubs and clubs and have an amazing time, all local and never too far from home. Then on NYE 2012 I found myself with a boyf and no-one in my friends or his friends were doing anything we could join in with (no couples we know socialise with eachother's friends - weird). We had a lovely time together doing a meal and drinks at a pub with fireworks but it was lonely without company. NYE 2013 we went to two houseparties of people we don't usually socialise with (a friend I have recently met and my stepbrother and wife). We had a good time but since have discussed that we may aswell just stay in the house doing our own thing or go on holiday because none of our close friends are ever going to celebrate with us and it will probably get harder every year. I also will always want to celebrate it. I think that if we go on holiday then somewhere amazing like Sydney or Vegas would be something we'd remember forever and we should do it before we start a family and have the funds. However the cost of it puts my OH off because he doesn't care about NYE and thinks these holidays will be amazing and we'll remember them forever whenever we go - I have to agree he is right and I am going for the wrong reasons and if I had a disappointing NYE then we'll have still been to Vegas and had fun but we would've paid double or treble than for a normal holiday (ouch).
Sorry for the long post0 -
Honestly I'm glad we did it as it was good to experience but I def wouldn't do it again, it wasn't bad but I thought it would be better. Given the cost of hotels as well, it makes for an expensive night! There are a million options of what you could do but when we looked into it you would be paying about $300 each for anything decent.
But you should 100% go and experience Vegas, it's the most amazing place and can be done so much cheaper then going over new year! Every night is a party over there anyway so you won't miss outIf at first you don't succeed - destroy all evidence that you tried.0 -

Oh we have already been. Went last July together and OH been before that in 2009. We are thinking about going in November when the costs are down instead of NYE. We know we will have a brilliant time whenever we go0 -
Morning all, I've got a quick question if I may. I went to Vegas back in 2011 following some fantastic advise from this board, absolutely loved it and am now in the pre pre pre planning stage of arranging a trip with my partner for my 30th.
I've got a chunk of virgin miles from my last trip and various credit card deals and was thinking about using it to upgrade us one way from economy to business, however I'm having trouble finding the correct fare classes using their online system.
Has anybody got any experience of this? I'm sure I could phone them and book the relevant fare class but at the moment I'm just interested in how much more I'm likely to pay for Y,B,R,L,U,M over the standard discounted fares?
Would be nice to treat ourselves to a bit of luxury but don't want to get my heart set if the fare increase is likely to be massive.0 -
Just after a little advice. I'm heading to Vegas over Easter (my birthday is Easter Sunday) and would like to go somewhere and have a nice birthday Brunch.
Any recommendations? I've had a look on various websites and the one at Bally's is rated highly but seems very focused on sea-food which none of us like. What others would you suggest?
Also - some website suggest everything is shut on Easter Sunday like it is here. Is that true?
72 days and counting :j0 -

Others here will likely provide more specific advice but in the meantime you could take a look on www.headforpoints.com which has a wealth of info on all things relating to airline rewards.0
