Thanks for the info on this - I've just seen that the Sterling Brunch for 2 is an available reward at 17,000 points. I've wanted to go since before our first trip in 2003 but have never quite managed to justify the cost to myself (or DH, more importantly haha!)

So far, I've got 200 points so I've a way to go

Any tips on maximising point collection would be gratefully received, or is it just a case of plodding away retweeting etc every day?

EDITED: Sorry, another question! I've just noticed that you earn points separately for each programme but in the 'points information' bit, it says something about points moved from another programme. I can't find any info on how to do this though. Is it possible to move all your points to one programme and if so, how? Thanks :)

  • Hey everyone, slightly off topic, but the skill set is here!
We've enough air miles to make the most of some economy seats in the current Virgin reward seat sale. Unfortunately can't get dates we want for Vegas at Easter, so thinking of Dubai.

We'd need to book flights now obviously in the sale, and hope that some good hotel deals come up... I remember earlier in the thread about being able to cancel flights without penalty... Is that the case?

Thinking if we can't find a good hotel deal, we can save the miles for something else?

Yes you get all your miles and taxes back minus a £25 or £30? Admin fee, so works well if u do need to cancel, I think allowed up to 24 hours before

Aha... So it's a bit like a no penalty hotel booking cancelation (but with an admin fee charge of £30ish).

So presumably even if you just changed your mind about the flights and just wanted to cancel, that's OK.

Do you think that'll be an admin fee charge per booking, eg. If you booked 2 return flights (a couple going in hols) then it'd be 2x admin fees? (So £60ish)

So we're thinking of booking the flights for next Easter, seeing if we can get a good hotel deal between now and then... If not just cancelling the bookin, pay the fee and use the miles another time.
  • just on for some opinions for those of you who use total rewards & social rewards
i have just had a baby so my next vegas trip will hopefully be for my 30th in just over 2 years

is it worth signing up for these schemes? i already play myvegas on facebook.

if anyone of you get a referall bonus with either of these schemes send me a pm & i will use you details

    Taken from virgin website:

If for any reason a flight reward is cancelled by the Member outside 24 hours of departure, 100% of the Miles will be re-credited to the member’s account. A cancellation fee of £30 for changes to flights originating in the UK, US$50 for changes to flights originating in the US or local currency equivalent of US$50 for changes to flights originating in any other region will apply. If for any reason a flight reward is cancelled within 24 hours prior to departure, no Miles will be refunded and no fee will be charged. If you change the original travel date (within 24 hours of departure) and later decide to cancel your flights, you will forfeit the mileage used for the reward.

I think it's £30 per reward flight so yes it would be £60 for both of you

How does that compare to the walk-up price for 2? If it's more than it would cost to use TR credits to buy it on the day I would not bother to redeem specifically for it. You could normally just use your TR credits on the day, and then if there were any special offers about or vouchers, etc you could take advantage of those.

One of the nicest things about SR is you can use the points for whatever you want without having to commit to a specific reward (or stalk a specific reward that is really hard to get).

You can move your points around...when you go to redeem there is an option to move points from other properties to get to the total you want to change over to TR credits.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Ferf, It's currently $85 pp so exactly the same as a walk up.
  • Thanks Ferf and Pebbles - now I get what Lesley was saying about having $60 left - so I can just convert all my points to TR credits and then just use them like money to buy what we want when we're there?
That sounds excellent :) Way better than stressing over getting a particular reward that you might go off by the time you actually get to Vegas

Right on both counts £ strengthening this morning already.

Pound has done a u-turn since lunchtime.
I seen it start to go down, and looked at fairfx....they were offering $1.62
Early afternoon.Thought I would bite the bullet, and buy some now for upcoming trip.Went on their site about 20 mins ago,to buy some, and it's dropped to $1.61.
May as well wait a bit longer now,and see where it goes over the next few weeks.....with my luck,it will be downwards.

Yes. When you redeem you can select your points across all programs then you jyst get 1000 tr points added to your card to spend as you wish. Watch all the videos asap as they will come up again after 30 days. And do highest points fiirst. Giada have a 15 point one that comes up daily so I do that first.
