I'm having a crisis of confidence about The Cosmo though.

I think anyone can have a bad experience just about anywhere that will colour their opinion of the property...we have stayed at Cosmo 4 or 5 times now and have never had any of the problems mentioned...other than not always being able to check-in early there, the only thing I can think that we have experienced was last trip our neighbors who had probably had a few drinks were quite loud on their terrace and seemed to want to engage in conversation with me around the dividers when they realised I was out there...which I found a bit off-putting...and there were crisps I had nothing to do with on the floor of our terrace the next morning.

We have mostly been either facing the strip or Bellagio fountains relatively high up.

The casino is a bit young and beautiful and we are neither...but I have never really felt out of place...I don't really meet their target demographic but I haven't felt shunned because of it...I have never felt uncomfortable there and we have booked to stay there again in October assuming my hubby's Identity account comes through with the last 2 nights comped - I got mine, now he just needs his. :)
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Not quite the same but Biloxi may fit the bill - we love it there but its got an old time Florida feel to it so it might be a bit quiet for you.
You will need a car as the Casinos's are strung out a bit, not like on the strip.
You can also use MyVegas now for the hotels there.

P.S - glad you liked Elara, we have 10 nights there in September.

Thanks for that post, Ferf. :) I chose the Cosmo as OH and I love glitz and glamour; fancy dinners and expensive cocktails and whatnot. It was only after booking it that I started to hear that it can be a bit too much on the rowdy side.

Yes, that's the one. I just clicked your link and it worked fine. I'm using Firefox, could it be your browser?

EDIT: Not ideal, but this is the R Steak Dinner Menu
