Exactly - this whole flying Ex-EU thing is getting more and more popular.
I talked my mate through it at the weekend and he booked a flight to the US and back with his girlfriend for a saving of £350 each.
People will do it if it's significant savings. The other thing is that when you earn avios on the long haul flight it pays for the short haul positioning flight itself assuming you can find a reward flight saver ticket - when flying Ex-DUB or Ex-AMS this is pretty easy to do...0 -
lol - at this rate, I think we can do a CPH (Copenhagen) meet
We have now booked!Lots to plan and little time
Positioning flights (£50 each) and 2 nights in the Hilton (£50 per night) connected to terminal at CPH (30mins train to centre @ £3.50'ish each), followed by a separate booking consisting of a flight from CPH to San Diego, and return flights from Vegas to Manchester have cost us less than doing the route (or any derivative ie. to LAX, LAS, SFO, PHX etc etc) from the UK for the time of year and we get a small euro-break to boot
We could've travelled to SFO or LAX for a similar price, but always wanted to venture to San Diego and never had chance...
Any San Diego / Palm Springs tips are most welcome
Haha so much for not going to Vegas this year! :rotfl: We're at Platinum from 9th September if you are there around then let us know and we might catch you both for a happy hour drink!0 -
So after everyone's great help on here for my first visit last November I'm now about to book again for October thanks to an offer for 3 Comp'd nights at Cosmo + 1 night for Sterling Identity status. Now just need to find somewhere for the remaining 3 nights. Could do Cosmo but wouldn't mind somewhere like Palazzo if I can get a good rate.
Waiting for the Fall email from Wynn/Encore to see what is on offer. Recently had a buy 2 nights at $139 each and get a 3rd night free with $200 resort credit. It basically solves my problem but we like Palazzos casino better and location just slightly better.0 -

How did you get 3 nights comped at Cosmo?! Did you gamble a lot there on your first trip?!
And how did you get such a good deal from Wynn/Encore?! That is amazing including the $200 resort credit.0 -
the $139 deal was very limited nights, as I tried that option, and although in May, was only 1 night at $139, all others best option was $179 a night + tax...
I would like to know how u get offer comps, as I gambled thousands of dollars in my trip, (and won a lot too!)
I ended up 375 short of moving up a level on my mLife card (all in 1 trip)..0 -
Just a few observations on comps etc:
The Cosmopolitan seems very generous currently. I'm not sure at what point level the comps start coming but over the course of a week I racked up 2,700 points. This is about $4,050 coin in which was mianly winnings being recycled. I probably spent $200-$250 a day of my own money on slots.
This was enough to reach Sterling status which gets me an extra complimentary night. They regularly offer me free tickets for whoever is performing at Boulevard Pool and for Rose Rabbit Lie but I can't get over to take advantage!
My girlfriend only earned about 300 points for $450 coin in over a week and her offer consists of 2 Wicked Spoon breakfasts for each day we stay. This is probably at the bottom end of their marketing offers.
As for Wynn, we signed up for the red card and had to make a certain points total to get a spin of the wheel which resulted in some free play. We spent that and had a good run on a certain machine that probably resulted in $250 coin in from a $20 stake. I think total coin in ran to about $600 here, though i am told that to get comp'd nights at Wynn they want 6,000 points from a trip at least so this could be a teaser offer. It's hard to tell if this Summer offer will be better or worse than the fall offer I am waiting for.
I know people Platinum with M-Life that don't get great offers because they play table games with a low house edge and their average spend is low. through going a couple of times a year though they rack up points, but points don't have an influence on the marketing and comps for the most part.
If you are looking for some comps, direct your play Cosmo's way. CET and M-Life seem to be getting tighter from what most people are reporting and Cosmo is going the other way!
The Cosmo comp is in a Terrace One Bedroom.0 -
I agree that both Cosmo and Wynn seem really generous with their offers, at least to start...we used to regularly get 2-3 nights at Wynn then Encore but they dried up a couple of years ago and now we get only reduced rates...I've heard a few other people with similar stories...so just assumed that is sort of their model - try to get you in, see what you play and then if it's not enough cut you off.
Cosmo for minimal play (relatively speaking) seem to offer 2 free nights...our offers have always come via email.
MGM - rarely offers us much and as a result we don't play at their casinos too much...repeat...but we are getting 2 nights at Mirage and (I think) Luxor when we look at mlife online.
CET - still where we end up starting our trip as we can always get at least 5 nights comped pretty much any of their properties...but as a result we gamble there a lot...repeat...we just log into Total Rewards and plug in our dates and see. We did find for October that we have to pay for the Saturday, but can still get 5 nights comped...so we ended up booking 6 nights at Caesars as it was the same price as 5.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

we could well be there around then - its our last couple of nights (depart 11/9) so just trying to firm up some plans... I must say Derek has been very accommodating so far. I've never had to do such hasty arrangements before (usually have nearly a year to plan stuff like this!) but it's going quite well!
Looking at getting 4 nights comp'd room at Harrahs in a Premium room with a view of the wheel... looks to be refurb'd from photos (anyone stayed there???), but doubt the Mrs will like it cos the pool looks a bit naff but it's only for a few daysthe money we save can be used for another night at Platinum
Interesting to read of comp experiences...
2 years ago, I was majority low-stakes ($15 p/hand 3-card poker) @ NYNY (MGM) , which got me a handful of offers for what I'd deem to be minimal play, numerous free rooms at Luxor, NYNY, Monte Carlo... usual suspects.
I hardly played there at all last year -and have no offers at all this year apart from a BOGOF for Luxor, but played quite a bit at Harrahs, Bally's and Caesars (CET) and like ferf, have a significant and wide range of comp offers for most properties this time around (or heavily reduced rates).
Budget has dictated that Harrahs is probably the wisest choice (at the moment), with the best room... fingers crossed!
I know ferf and others have said this before, but CET definitely seems the more rewarding of the two!0 -
I have an odd question... does anyone know if it's possible to rent from Hertz WITHOUT having CDW included.
I have coverage elsewhere so it is not needed - thinking it would save a few bucks!
I have tried the US site but it is insisting on including it0
