Sorry I haven't been posting but have been checking in each day. Some lovely things being made.
Florence - I admire your will power for sticking to finishing the hangers, your cards are lovely too.
I went to the Hobbycraft / Stitching show at the NEC last week and spent a total of £20 and that included the £3 show guide. I did 3 workshops which I really enjoyed - freehand machine embroidery, a workshop building up layers with vilene and foil and I made a needle-case. Had a lovely day despite little purchases. My main purchases were a kit to make a Hedgehog Hat and a kit to make a pair of fingerless gloves, both knitted. I also signed up to 3 issues of Cross Stitch Crazy for £5 which included a goody bad and a free gift.
The biggest news from the week is I've learnt to crochet (fanfare please) and crocheted a scarf. I've got the crochet bug now and have ordered some crochet hooks and a couple of small animal kits.
1. Finish hardanger SAL from Mable Figworthy – I started this last year but couldn’t master the cut out stitches so gave up. I have decided to give this another go but to improvise and do a “filler stitch” instead of the cut out.
2. Try to finish A - Z Nativity cross. Have only put try to finish as I started this and wasn’t happy with how it was stitching up and as it’s on 18 count I am struggling with it. Will see how it goes.
3. Finish quilt for bed - large project and first quilt I've done. Majority of squares have been completed but need to sew the squares together and actually make into quilt. Stitched squares together into strips and now need to stitch these together to form a quilt. Not sure of the next stage.
4. Finish Rock, Paper, Scissors, Spoke, Lizard cross stitch. Finished and son loves it so result!
5. Stitch Pairs or Spoils Tree cross stitch. Haven’t decided which one yet, will amend list once I’ve decided which to do.
6. Knit 3 snoods as Christmas presents. Finished and stitched up.
7. Sew up the two jumpers that I have had knitted for 12 months. Nearly finished stitching up one of these but have almost run out of will to finish stitching it up – disaster.
8. Finish pair of knitted socks. I have one finished at the moment.
9. Finish butterfly mobile made from mini hama beads. Started this in 1996. Finished and framed
10. Cross Stitch Henry VIII and his Wives. Finished, framed and given to my Dad, he loved it and has it on his wall already.
11. Finish knitted scarf – I’m about half way through this one but have fallen out of love with it.
12. Make a new cover for the sofa bed which is in my craft room (spare room). I fell in love with a “patchwork” chair but can’t afford it nor do I have space for it. Hubby suggested making a cover for the sofa bed in the same style. Hopefully this should use up some of my stash of material.
13. Make curtains for living room and cushion covers. Finished
14. Learn to crochet – YAY a very kind lady called Caroline taught me to do this at the show last week at the NEC. Have finished crocheting a scarf.
Finished 6 out of 14 projects.
Sorry for the length of this post.

I have finished all 24 padded hangers for Christmas presents. I have 2 boxes of made pressies stored upstairs now.
These black ones are made with the skirt fabric of a ball dress - I used the bodice fabric for the black/silver hangers.
I have black net from that ball gown - need to think of a way to use that. I don't do halloween.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

I'm loving all of the projects that people have completed...
I have a few bits finished now - just need to photograph them...
Seriously pleased to have done any of them - as I am manic at placment and uni at the moment...
0 - Tidy the craft room The room is clear (ish)
1- a scarf for my sister - this is filled with dropped stitches (and ones picked up from nowhere!!), after speaking with my mother she had told me how I've picked up stitches - knitted through the same stitch, not knocked it off, and then gone again... I have now finished this... Bu i am too ashamed to photograph it...
2- a scarf kit that my sil bought for me for Christmas... not started, but I will do as soon as I have finished item 1. sorted... Looks really good photo to follow...
3- A valentines card for my OH... Anniversary card sorted, valentines card also sorted...
4- an advent calender, I plan to make and decorate pockets in leather as I have masses cluttering up the spare room. for this any ideas or inspiration welcome, as I only have 6 ideas so far, and need 24... done the 8 as needed... don't have enough wall space for 24 pockets...
5- mini Christmas cross stitch finished, and used in the advent calender...
6- make a skirt - I have the pattern, the fabric, and even a new sewing machine... this WILL get done soon. I have never followed a pattern to make an item of clothing, so this is deliberately an easy pattern from 'sewaholic' which will hopefully go well...
7- make a dress - as above really
8- need to make a pouch for my partners fishing knife, which he got for christmas - pattern drawn, will hopefully get to this some time soon...
9- trousers, for which my partner is going to get me the pattern for my anniversary prezzie... I can't wait. haha
10- pincushion - made a photographed
11- a bird shaped pincushion - Have to admit I don't think this will be finsihed any time soon... Just too fiddly and I now have a simple square one....
12- A new purse - as mine has a dodgy zipper... sorted, and pics uploaded...
13- Add a load of charms to a bracelet, I have been meaning to do this for over a year, - they are things that have sentimental value, and include a few odd earring that were just too nice to throw away, and I have finally gotten round to it...
14- make a pendent out of the end of a fish slice... (I have a few fork bracelets, and this would kind of match the theme). I have cut it, but need to sand and shape the end, and then drill for the cord... finished, and photographed...
15 - make some hair bows, an idea I got from a crafty mag... All done...
16 - earrings made with vintage keys.
17 - Drift wood mobile
I haven't been posting as often as I was hoping too - but I have found out I apparently taught myself to knit left handed...
I need to find another few little easy projects that I can do a bit at a time...
I have been trying my hand at paper cutting for a mothers day card - and have a sneaky suspicion that I am getting a sissix machine for my birthday so would love ideas hat I can use that for...
Thank you all for keeping me inspired...

Florenceem would the net do for 'lavender ' bags but put rose petals inside (lavender might fall through the holes depending how fine the mesh is). You could also put sugared almonds in them - could just cut circles, put almonds (small sweets/ rose petals in the middle), gather up and tie with ribbon - add a loop if you want to hang them (on the coat hangers perhaps). Or if you put bright (foil wrapped) sweets inside they could go on a Christmas tree instead of buying tree chocs (if you do). Would also work as mini stockings if you cut the shapes with pinking shears - net won't fray will it?

Back again. I was thinking about 'dolly' bags - similar to almond bags above but larger - I think you need to put a row of bias binding for a draw up thread. You would need a base layer of material with the net on top, hem the edges and add a lace trim.
I also thought would you or anyone you are making for use one of those mesh bags sold for washing delicates in the machine so they don't get bashed around too much - they are fairly expensive to buy and the net would work. many years ago I acquired a carrot sack from the market and I used it for years - I put all the small lego bits in it, tied a firm knot and threw them in the washer - it was much easier than the put everything in the bath and dredge out with a sieve method I had been using up till then.My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -
Popping on quick, scarf is almost finished, 5 mins tomorrow night and the. Learn how to cast off and hopefully have something to post
also seen arm knitting, has anyone seen this or tried? Apperently quite easy and seen some fab scarfs done this way. Going to get some thicker wool in a colour I like and have a go this week
Just wanted to say how glad I am I stumbled across this group, loving getting in to crafting and trying to learn new skills. I may only be at a very basic stage but hope to keep developing my skills as time progresses! What would any knitters recommend moving on to next after a scarf?Christmas is the most magical time of the year :santa2:

Well done, Florenceem, for getting your hangers done. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do next.
I haven't read everything properly as I have been away for a few days, but as usual everyone has been incredibly busy - it's amazing how much gets done.Sewing 88/COLOR]Woollies 19Card s 91Reading 37/400 -
