  • Computer / Internet been on the blink. Have been trying to comment on everyone great work but it failed twice.

Just want say quickly. Had a very happy day. Made basic card and then let grand-daughter loose with stickers and embellishments. She did a fine job considering she is 20mths old. Think her mum will love it on Mothers' Day.

Evening all. OH was late last night as a lorry broke down, so I managed to finish one of the picture jewellery frames, need his help to drill me some small holes in for the next one and he has said he will do it for me over the weekend :D Added picture of the completed first one to the Flickr group, can't upload it on here ATM as I am on the computer and the picture is on my phone. Will post pic on here once I have finished both :)

Taken Mother's Day card today and it was very well received (no camera so no picture - DS3 has ordered one but don't know if I will be allowed to use it when it comes). One of the cushion pictures is finished but the satin bias tape I need for finishing off is in the attic - attic stairs are currently under re-construction. (using 4 pairs of knickers in rotation as all the others are neatly folded in the drawers up there - didn't want to start moving things into here until decorating was done, then only ended up with time to put fresh sheets on the bed for DS3's friend who is staying whilst doing the stairs.

Lovely projects everyone. I remember making padded hangers and lavender bags for my grandmas and aunt when I was younger - one year I taught my brother to do them as he had no money for presents (mum found an old but pretty dressing gown for him to cut up).

Hoping to get back to dress making soon - once the diy projects are over. Bought myself three patterns from the charity shop last month and nearly bought a pattern for smocked cushions. I have never done these but remember my grandma doing them (she had several in her front room). Wondered if these were due for a revival.

Sorry I haven't been posting but have been checking in each day. Some lovely things being made.

Florence - I admire your will power for sticking to finishing the hangers, your cards are lovely too.

I went to the Hobbycraft / Stitching show at the NEC last week and spent a total of £20 and that included the £3 show guide. I did 3 workshops which I really enjoyed - freehand machine embroidery, a workshop building up layers with vilene and foil and I made a needle-case. Had a lovely day despite little purchases. My main purchases were a kit to make a Hedgehog Hat and a kit to make a pair of fingerless gloves, both knitted. I also signed up to 3 issues of Cross Stitch Crazy for £5 which included a goody bad and a free gift.

The biggest news from the week is I've learnt to crochet (fanfare please) and crocheted a scarf. I've got the crochet bug now and have ordered some crochet hooks and a couple of small animal kits.

    1. Finish hardanger SAL from Mable Figworthy – I started this last year but couldn’t master the cut out stitches so gave up. I have decided to give this another go but to improvise and do a “filler stitch” instead of the cut out.
    2. Try to finish A - Z Nativity cross. Have only put try to finish as I started this and wasn’t happy with how it was stitching up and as it’s on 18 count I am struggling with it. Will see how it goes.
    3. Finish quilt for bed - large project and first quilt I've done. Majority of squares have been completed but need to sew the squares together and actually make into quilt. Stitched squares together into strips and now need to stitch these together to form a quilt. Not sure of the next stage.
    4. Finish Rock, Paper, Scissors, Spoke, Lizard cross stitch. Finished and son loves it so result!
    5. Stitch Pairs or Spoils Tree cross stitch. Haven’t decided which one yet, will amend list once I’ve decided which to do.
    6. Knit 3 snoods as Christmas presents. Finished and stitched up.
    7. Sew up the two jumpers that I have had knitted for 12 months. Nearly finished stitching up one of these but have almost run out of will to finish stitching it up – disaster.
    8. Finish pair of knitted socks. I have one finished at the moment.
    9. Finish butterfly mobile made from mini hama beads. Started this in 1996. Finished and framed
    10. Cross Stitch Henry VIII and his Wives. Finished, framed and given to my Dad, he loved it and has it on his wall already.

    11. Finish knitted scarf – I’m about half way through this one but have fallen out of love with it.
    12. Make a new cover for the sofa bed which is in my craft room (spare room). I fell in love with a “patchwork” chair but can’t afford it nor do I have space for it. Hubby suggested making a cover for the sofa bed in the same style. Hopefully this should use up some of my stash of material.
    13. Make curtains for living room and cushion covers. Finished
    14. Learn to crochet – YAY a very kind lady called Caroline taught me to do this at the show last week at the NEC. Have finished crocheting a scarf.

Finished 6 out of 14 projects.

Sorry for the length of this post.
