Needs must Al, I've got 2 manic days ahead in work followed by 4 days in the mountains with my gold DofE lovelies.
Today needs to be equally as productive. Just having half an hour to myself with a cup of tea before I start attacking the to do list. We're going for a big family lunch with the outlaws in honour of father's day, so no cooking for me
I remembered to update the MFin3 thread yesterday, and we're on track to exceed our goal of reaching £106k by 2015. Doing the update got me thinking about goals for the new mortgage.
We can overpay £300 each month from the off (keeping mortgage payment the same as current mortgage). Assuming no kids are spawned in the interim, after 3 years we would have a balance of £86,500. If we push it to £350, after 3 years we would owe £84,700 and if we pushed to £400 we would owe just under £83,000. Options 2 and 3 remain somewhat academic until I know for certain how my take home pay will increase in September, but each plan would allow us to continue saving and paying ourselves first to complete jobs around the house.
By crude estimate, £3000 knocks the equivalent of a year off, making a month £250. Whichever plan we adopt, each capital reduction and OP combined would effectively shorten the term by two and a bit months.
After 5 years of OPs which felt like a drop in the ocean, it feels exciting to be on the precipice of making big inroads into slaying the beastknow thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
c'est le weekend!
It has been a blooming long ol' week. OH in work this morning so I aim to have a good tidy up downstairs and restore some sort of order to my poor house. The lawn needs a good cut, but I don't know if it will have dried up enough by this afternoon. We shall see.
Hope you are all well.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -

it wasn't a personal promotion but my department have been awarded something that has the potential to be very exciting and profitable to career development. Don't want to say too much as I run the risk of outing myself IYSWIM. I was observed last week as week as part of the decision making process, hence my previous reference to manic few days prior to my DofE trip.
On the topic of DofE, the kids were amazing but we've decided that we're taking a year off from running it next year. Between my commitment to that, departmental trips and other residentials that I have helped to staff this year, I've clocked up close to 2 months worth of unpaid overtime. No wonder I'm bloody knackered!know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -

More news has trickled in this week about the new work opportunity. My HoD has volunteered me for a role which suits my specialism down to the ground. Whilst I have no designs on jumping ship, it will offer fab opportunities to network and 'get my name' out there professionally. It would be particularly useful experience for a future sidestep in my career path that I would consider if the opportunity arose.
Another busy week on the horizon. There is lots to get done but thankfully I have very few contact hours next week so should be able to be productive at school. I need to sort out all of the paperwork related to my payrise for September. I am also determined to mark all of my GCSE coursework. My classroom needs a good declutter and sprucing up so that I don't return to chaos in September. I've also got a 2 week trip to SA to prepare for. I've started packing tonight, it looks like I am emigrating!
Hope you all have a good week :beer:know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -

Why hello school holidays! You've been a long time coming
I worked right up to the wire this year, trying to finish marking coursework, get my performance management sorted (glowing observation from a member of SLT who is not a supporter of my subject) and sort out my application for a payrise next year. I need a holiday!
I am now frantically doing my last minute packing and prep. 5 of us teachers and 44 kids depart for a 2 week jaunt to South Africa today. We're all on pins to see whether we get through immigration (new visa nightmares), which has dampened the usual pre-trip excitement somewhat. This is the first trip I've done which has a risk assessment for animal bites :D For those in contact via faceache I will no doubt spam your feed with updates of our antics. I'll 'see' the rest of you on the other side :wave:know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
Well done all around.
