After a painfully unnecessary delay (OH is awful with paperwork ) I've just received word that our mortgage application has passed the credit checks. It took less than a week from them receiving the paperwork to giving us the (verbal) green light. FD now want to confirm the credentials of the solicitor who [STRIKE]squiggled on[/STRIKE] certified our ID and we'll be all systems go. I'm anticipating a formal written offer by the end of the coming week. Our solicitor seems to think that they can wrap up the conveyancing within 3-4 weeks of receiving the written mortgage offer. Here's hoping - our payments when we revert to Accord's SVR are rather hair-raising!know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0

FD are pretty good aren't they. I'm hoping at the end of our current 5 year fix, another 5 year fix with them would see us to the end of the mortgage. Hope it all goes through quickly to avoid that nasty SVR!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0

FD made a great impression back in the days before we had a mortgage, I hope we end up banking with them again at some point. Nice to speak to real people, quickly.0

it is a sad state of affairs when they stand out for something that should really be the norm.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0

Agree completely. Good Energy are the same, very reliable, but how hard should it be to be accurately billed for gas and electricity use?0

I've forced myself to sit down this weekend and get on with something that I don't officially have to do until next school year. Last year I made the mistake of leaving it until the new academic year, and it meant that I have spent the entire year constantly chasing my tail. I was determined not to repeat the same mistake! I feel better for knowing a significant bulk of the work is now done. Going back and finishing it off is less daunting now that I have broken the back of the work.
There is another busy week ahead in work. I'm taping speaking controlled assessments with my yr9s, I have 60+ reports to write and three sets of writing assessments to mark. It is review week meaning I need to interview each pupil in my form class about their progress and hopes for next year. So much for the summer term offering breathing space to prepare for the new year to come!
OH is coming round to the idea of doing the garden and is starting to take more of an interest in the planning side of things. I have bought a few shrubs from Asda for bargain prices. We've transferred them into bigger pots so that they have room to grow until we are ready to plant them into the garden itself. They are only little, but they'll grow with time.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
There's a lot of soul searching and introspection on the board of late. I've all but reached the end of my tether with my complete lack of work/life balance, and have decided that nothing will change for the better unless I take action.
An idea I've come across in the past is the wheel of life.
The idea behind the scale is that you plot a graph to show how content you are with each aspect of your life (where 10 is the best). By identifying 'deficiencies' it then becomes clearer which aspects of life you should be targeting as a priority.
I don't know if I'll bother with the graph aspect, but it seems as good a starting point as any for evaluating where I am, where I'd like to be and how to get there. Feel free to play along.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
Rant/whinge/moan alert
Our proof of ID was rejected as person who certified them didn't meet FD's ridiculous requirements. We requested written confirmation of exactly what they did want, and the results produced much rolling of eyes and tutting from the solicitors. You have to question the UK's attitude to proof of ID. You have to prove who you are to GET proof of ID, yet it now seems that you have to prove that you are who your ID says you are to use your proof of ID.... what is the point of proof of ID if it is not sufficient proof of your ID? The whole situation feels rather farcical. Let's just hope that the moon was indeed in Venus yesterday and the newly certified documents meet FD's expectations.
I've been in a bit of a funk all week. Fed up of work, fed up of situation with Mothership, fed up of people whinging about the amount of work involved in my ideas for transforming the garden (we're starting pretty much from scratch, it IS going to take work to get something that resembles a decent garden. What was the point of buying a house we can grow into if we're not prepared to do work on it?!).
tea and sympathy please (or a kick up the !!!!!), I'm feeling pretty fragile todayknow thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0
