Home sweet home after an incredible, humbling two weeks in South Africa.

I spent yesterday semi comatose on the sofa, and today is shaping up to be much the same. It turns out that my body isn't overly fond of free alcohol at 33,000 feet (hello spectacular cankles  :rotfl:) so fluid and rest are slowly bringing them down.

It gives me lots of time to think about how to make the most of the next four weeks. Looking forward to catching up with diaries over the next few days. I'll share some pics from the trip once I have unpacked.

Cankles continue to deflate and Kondo-ing has begun with gusto. A whole bag of shredded paper left the study today, and that is just for starters. Whilst a lot of the MK book was very airy fairy for my liking, it certainly did make me question why I have kept certain things. I sense that it will prove to be a very cathartic process. What a wonderful gift to myself to begin my 30th year with a home that is clutter free :)

Inspired by Al, I'm going to do a storecupboard challenge. It should help keep food costs low for August and make room for a big shop to restock the stores prior to going back to school. I'm currently coveting a spiralizer, so that may be a 'to me, love me' present for kondoing the kitchen.

  • Glad you had a good trip. I did one to India with fourteen year olds a few years ago but they didn't feel humbled, just excited that everything was so cheap. You obviously have to be an adult to get it.

Your school is a bit cheeky to not pay you for trips like this one. We got £50 a night, but only now I have moved on do I realise how generous that was.

Enjoy the rest of the break and good luck with the MK.

    £50?!

It is a constant, ongoing battle to get them to allow us to build a kitty for staff food into what the kids pay. We're not talking lobster and caviar here, just a gesture in recognition of the fact that we give up our time free of charge to run trips. It would work out about £5 per pupil at most

School currently insists that staff meals should come from school funds, not pupil money. However the level of remuneration they have currently set will not cover a bar meal at 'Spoons. I have no desire to profit from school trips, but neither should I find myself out of pocket for facilitating them. As I'm sure you can imagine, this is a real bone of contention among my colleagues at the moment. Most colleagues get around the problem with some creative accounting ;)

    ta da!

(I hereby absolve myself of any shopping urges this may unleash within you) :rotfl:

Used to make vegetable noodles, spaghetti etc. Popular with lots of my foody and dieting friends to increase veg intake and reduce carbs

Not mentioning that you are on duty 24 hours, with your ears on elastic when you finally get to bed, you take your career in your hands every time you do one.

The weather is rather miserable here today so I've continued my kondo of the study. Stationery was on the hit list today. I have a bag for life full of [STRIKE]junk[/STRIKE] treasure that I will be taking into school. OH is working crazy hours at the mo, so I can plod on largely undisturbed.

I have decided that today is the the day I am going back to my exercise regime. It will have to be something reasonably gentle like a Leslie Sansone video as my (c)ankles are still not completely happy. Gentle or not, it has to be better than sitting on my !!!!!... the stone of blubber I've put on over the past few weeks is not going to shift itself!

  • The school management are very lucky that you continue to do the trips on that basis. They are really taking the mickey. Good for you for still volunteering.
