But daily USE doesn't involve bashing it against keys in a bag etc. The screen is designed to be touched by fingers or a dedicated stylus, and nothing else.

The first phone was cracked - not bashed, whilst in a bag. The second phone cracked whilst putting it down on a coffee table - although maybe that should also go down as something you can't do with a mobile phone.

So, OP, you don't seem to have many people replying who have had problems with the screen on their S3 Mini. How many do you have so far out of interest ?

I have an S3 Mini, it goes in my car, in my handbag, on my desk at work, i've dropped it twice. My daughter has dropped it too. No damage at all. It's in a case.

I don't think Samsung will be worried.

(And the banks still charge what they like by the way)

Ooh I must take you up on this first. Here's me thinking that the £35 letter charges where a thing of the past.

I think you'll also find that those who weren't slow on the uptake did very nicely with refunds.

I never did say that Samsung would be worried because to be fair too many have been brain washed and told that if a crack appears on a screen it's YOUR fault. Well that isn't always the case.

In the meantime as they bring out later models the chances of cracking will be less as they have Gorilla Toughened Glass 3. I wonder why they'd do that on their latest S4 Mini if the scratch resistant screen was sufficient?

I have spoken to the retailer today - again and it appears likely that it will not be necessary to go to court anyway mainly because I am not a walk over.

Surely the answer to your question is because Gorilla Glass 3 was only introduced earlier this year... too late to be incorporated in the S3 Mini.

Isn't it wonderful how technology improved year upon year?

A few more years and we'll all be able to bounce our phones on concrete without a worry... or a case. :D

Drop your phone face down on concrete even with gorilla glass it will still break the screen underneath as I did this year. Now use a bumper case so the phone won't fall face flat on the ground.

    Phone replaced by insurance.
Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)
