  • You're making sense to me. Another rock solid bit of advice that I got was not to cling to people or things just cos they are there. Instead, accept that some things are in your life for a reason, for a season or for life. The fun is trying to figure out the categories.

Love it, INOD! What a great piece of advice (& thanks for sharing!) :D

Nothing much to report from yesterday, it was entirely wedding-based and lovely, though we didn't stay too late as Mr M was quite drained from worrying about family-in-hospital stuff (though things sound like they should be ok, got a few weeks to go yet though).

MFW wise, I used a dress, shoes, accessories that I already had :D (nice to give them an outing, tbh!). It's reminded me that I really need to start rotating my accessories a bit, I have quite a few that I could put into action. It would be nice to start dressing up again, I've been a bit out of the way of it over the past couple of years.

Simple pleasures: petals flying through the air, bobbing daffodils, luscious yew trees in village churchyards, huge glasses of cold sparkling water with lime slices!

Today... getting over the blinking clock change and faced with another untidy house. I think a list is in order!

    Purple = done.
    • laundry & 95*c service wash
    • dishwasher
    • rubbish & recycling out
    • sort mini piles of untidiness lurking
    • sort stacked piles of paper & nonsense (done as much as poss)
    • throw out dead flowers I keep forgetting about
    • deal with ridiculous amount of tabs I have open :o
    • take time out to read nice books!
    • emergency gardening

Ooh, a list of interesting things iPhones can do... good to know (especially charging on airplane mode!)

I'm not sure I'm convinced by the "nothing in my house that I don't love" idea.

While it's true that I need to declutter a lot of stuff that's in my house merely because I haven't made time to sort it out and chuck it, nevertheless I'm happy to live my whole life in a house where much of the stuff is just functional. Replacing all the merely functional stuff with stuff that I love would take an enormous amount of effort (not to mention money) and for what? I'd rather deal with most of the things on an "OK that will do" basis, and plough my effort into investing in people.
    Or have I completely misunderstood?

I guess that if that particular idea/phrase hasn't grabbed you, then it's not one for you to adopt/apply in your life!

I won't be applying it to everything. My sofa is nice, but I'm not one who wants the perfect one so won't be arranging a new one 'just because'. I'll be applying it more to the clutter I have.

Gosh, no, I wouldn't actively replace things, or even go out of my way to buy something I couldn't afford just because I liked it... I just mean things that are within my control. And it's not necessarily all about physical items, it can apply to all sorts of areas of your life.

It's definitely about moving towards having happy, joyful surroundings... whether that's the simple pleasure of having tea out of a cup you love or spending quality time with people you love (& eradicating the life clutter that gets in the way of that) :)

It's not always possible to get away from certain commitments or people etc, but it's more about awareness of orientating yourself towards what you want more often. It's easy to hit autopilot and months/years have passed before you know it ;)

Working at 11pm on a Sunday night :o Thankfully for only half an hour or so but I feel bushed now. Shall buy myself back half an hour tomorrow for book reading ;)

Re: emergency gardening ~ realised all my poor plants have half died (forgot about them in chaos of last week or so), so have come up with interim plan for them until I can get my hands on compost (still need to get that sorted, oops). All this not knowing if we're coming or going has meant I've not got started on anything, I still need to revisit my original plan and see what I can do with it. Actually, maybe I'll garden instead of read tomorrow, hmm.

:www: MFW Wonderment: snacks from freezer, used up some eggs (scrambled for lunch) that needed using, and identified veg in the fridge that's on its way out; had some roasted this evening (with slices of pork, makeshift Sunday dinner ;)) and was going to batch cook soup, but think I'll do that tomorrow as I can have some for lunch then too.

:coffee: Simple Pleasures: clean and tidy surfaces! Especially in the kitchen, suddenly there's room to bake again :D

:heartsmil Burrow Building: plotting more cheap escapes with our two together card and chatting about various ways of climbing the property ladder, all very adventurous... lets hope we can get officially started soon. :p

Now that makes a lot more sense. I knew I must be missing something. Thanks P*M. :)

No worries, Lois. I had a feeling I hadn't explained it well, that's what I get for writing these things late at night :rotfl:

:D apple muncher, I do love a good plot & plan! Considering about 1 out of 10 (or is that 100?) come off, I'll wait until they have any substance until reporting back. ;)
