My Cats gone missing

Hope your cat comes back soon.
I dont get why people just take in or adopt cats that wander in to their homes or gardens without trying to take them to the vets to see if they belong to someone else. Cats can and do roam far from home, you just dont know where they have come from.
You wouldnt just take in a dog without trying to find its owner, so why a cat?Slimming World Member - Started 05/02/150 -
There was a found cat on a local rescue website a few weeks back, through the power of Facebook her owners spotted her, she was over 60 miles from home. Must have climbed in a van poor thing, so do cast your net as wide as you can.Make £2026 in 2026

Probley because vets charge for even the slightest thing. Myself i live quite a way from the vets and it would mean an expensive taxi ride and a vet fee, (my vet does nothing for nothing )
Cat shelters are full so won't (can't ) even come to help, rspca will not do anything if they think the animal is being fed. I have in the past adoped any strays that arrive at my door but put advertisments in the vets, rspca, and the local paper. Have never had an owner turn up yet from this.
Dogs can be collected by the police or dog warden.0 -

Not necessarily. My neighbour brought me a sick cat recently which had turned up in her garden, so I took it to our regular vets to check for a microchip. They found a chip and called the owner, and whilst the nurse was on the 'phone the vet examined the cat. Turned out the owner lived a couple of roads from me, so I offered to take the cat to his home while I was on my way home, but the vet refused and said they would keep the cat there until the owner arrived and agreed to have him put to sleep (he was suffering kidney failure, the curse of the elderly cat). So off I went, duty done, and it didn't cost me a penny (although I would have paid to help the poor beast if necessary).
To the OP: don't give up hope. I had a timid tabby disappear a few years ago, she came home days later, filthy dirty and starving but otherwise well. She eventually passed away earlier this year at a ripe old age.Je suis Charlie.0 -
These are just my opinions, I understand that not everyone will agree.
Its fair enough that cat shelters are full etc and I appreciate that a taxi ride may be expensive.
Sorry I cant see that a vet would charge you for bringing a cat in and scanning its chip which takes all of 5 seconds to scan? Take it to a different vet. If it gets scanned and no chip then there is not much else you can do as (IMO) a responsible pet owner would do this simple thing. If you decide to keep the cat you should be taking it to the vets to get it health checked anyway surely?
Would it not be worth the taxi ride if someone got their beloved pet back? Maybe ask a friend to take it in to the vet. I know how I would feel if a pet went missing and so I would do all I could to help someone else get their own back.
Also as we have seen, cats could stray for miles and miles. So local paper advertisements etc may not work. Luckily now we have the power of social media which does help.
As I have said before, hope your pet returns soon Dandelion xSlimming World Member - Started 05/02/150 -
Sadly shes still not home and no sightings at all. How a ten year old cat can disappear into thin air is beyond me.
Because she went missing from 6am-8am last Sat morning,I think she most likley will have been chased off by another cat or fox. Theres no dogs round here and I cant see anybody stealing her as its all pensioners round here. Also she hates strangers and runs off when she sees people.
I dont think a vet would charge for a scan to be honest.
When I found her 10 years ago, she wast chipped and I put notices in all the newsagents etc.
If I found a cat, then I would borrow a cat basket off someone and ask a friend to take me to the vets or go on the bus. I will not use taxis for anything other than dire emergencies as they are a blatant rip off.
Its only right to do the decent thing especially when the owners ca be really upset.0 -
dandelion, I'll continue to keep my fingers crossed for puss cat turning up safely . Please don't give up hope x0

Am so so sorry to hear about your cat dandelionclock - have just found this thread as our darling cat disappeared on Boxing Day and not been seen since and I guess I'm desperately searching for some kind of hope that he could still come back.
Bright sunny day and he popped out the back door as usual but never came back despite calls and searches.
All the posts about cats coming back have given me a glimmer of hope. I've put out posters, leaflets asking for shed/garage searches, facebook, asked local shops/vets. Our cat has a microchip and a tag with phone number. Live in such a small road and our other one doesn't go far am just so scared he won't come back. I too have checked roads. Do hope you have some good news very soon dandelionclock I will think of you.0 -
^ Im sorry to hear about your cat as well its awful isnt it? Its like losing a family member.
I cant believe the amount of cats that go missing and its put me off getting another. I think if I get another in the future the I will get the back garden completley fenced off so it cant get out and wander off or get chased off etc.
I cant go through this again its been awful. I hope yours returns, no further news about mine.
I think these microchips should be developed so that you can log onto the computer and track where your cat is. At the moment when they are gone its just a guessing game regarding whats happened to them.0
