Christmas bonus

Mine even goes one step further, at Christmas various suppliers and customers give us gifts for dealing with them all year, the intention is that they are for us, the boss claims all and takes it home, It's never anything major just a cheap bottle of wine or biscuits, he takes all.
That is absolutely shocking. Disgustingly mean. There are about 60 people in my department I think, and if someone sends in a box of sweeties to one of the teams or managers it gets opened up and shared among everyone. If bottles of wine come in or something that can't be shared, they are kept till Christmas and then raffled off among the whole department which is the fairest way to do it.0 -
That is rare. I have worked in hospitality so you would have luxury food suppliers and liquor suppliers sending in bottles and baskets & all sorts of things and the directors take them home.angeltreats wrote: »That is absolutely shocking. That is tax deductible, I don't think bonuses are.
They are still quite common, although not all are done at christmas.
Sorry someone may have beat me to it, but bonuses are tax deductible. They are just another part of your income and therefore paid as normal.PAD 2023 Debt total as of Dec 2022 £18,988.63*April £17,711.03

We get a Christmas bonus this year of £500 (this is before tax) which is nice, however we haven't received a pay rise at all. Not even to bring us in line with inflation.

Our inflation pay rise is set from August but it's not actually agreed until later in the year, so what actually happens is you start receiving the increase in January and receive the backdated extra pay from August-January in December, so that's the 'bonus'.
The payrise is only 1% so I think I'll get about £40 extra in my bank account this month. But, I'm lucky to get one at all.0 -

Which boss do you refer to? The BIG boss of the company works and lives in America and I haven't met him and he is the one that determines whether the company as a whole gets a bonus.
My present to the "boss" is my professionalism, determination, dedication etc. I'm sure his thousands upon thousands of pounds makes his Christmas already bearable with out the need of further gifts from employees....0 -
No pay rise in 6 1/2 years. No xmas bonus. Xmas party £20 - 40 to take partner so didn't go
Happy days0 -
In turn, his present to you is employment and remuneration in pay. No difference.mustang121 wrote: »Which boss do you refer to? The BIG boss of the company works and lives in America and I haven't met him and he is the one that determines whether the company as a whole gets a bonus.

I am a self-employed cleaner and didnt really expect anything in the form of a bonus.
Was just settling down withh a glass of red, in my PJs, when there was a knock at the door...
The boss of the agency i work for was stood there with a bottle of cava and £60 bonus for me
very pleased with that!
Also got £20 from a client today, so £80 so far! I feel lucky
