It says in the description that it is a digital aerial. .... So it definitely exists

Its just marketing BS to try to sell more aerials ..

i.e. I've gone digital so I'll need a 'digital' aerial

Your don't/won't ! - as above no such thing !

You have to admire the marketing though - as you say the aerials are the same but there's now HD aerials, 1080p full HD aerials and finally 3D aerials!

Unfortunately scart is pretty limited these days as most 'smart' devices are hdmi, while there are conversion devices available it starts adding more cost to a solution that's probably not going to be worthwhile.

I realise you would like to be able to watch on the TV (presumably because it has a bigger screen?) But why don't you just watch on your laptop? I very rarely use my big screen TV anymore, unless I am watching a film or simlar, I find it just as easy if not more so to watch on my laptop.

It is "digital" because it is more than just a piece of metal wire plugged into the back of the TV. Maybe it has another more specific name. Either way something like this will fix the OP's problem!
But you guys can discuss the word "digital" and it's proper use some more if you like. :P

The more specific name it has is "aerial".

That is what differentiates it from a bit of wire stuck into the back of the TV.

As the OP cannot put up an aerial it won't solve the problem either.

    Hello,

Thanks for the answers. I have a nowtv box and have been told that I can't get live tv on that, also I can't get permission to put an aerial up, I live in a rented flat.

The tv is old, so only has a scart socket. I did not want to have to put my laptop through the tv.

I think I will have to give up on the idea, just would have been nice to watch the news while getting ready for work. Hopefully something new will arrive soon,

    Thanks again.

    Susanna

I really don't think something new will arrive soon, technology moves on and it's very unlikely to be making new scart only devices now.

If you don't want to change your TV that's your business, but it is the easiest solution, otherwise there are others such as running your laptop through tv even though you appear not to want to do that either.

I don't know how you can be helped if you are unwilling to get a new TV or take up suggestions made. I suspect what you want is a scart only device but I think you will be waiting indefinitely for that ie very unlikely to happen.

If it's money then I saved up for my current tv bit by bit, saved vouchers and xmas/birthday money etc. Did surveys and saved those vouchers and so on.

Seriously, have you tried using a radio? Radio 5 Live in the mornings has continuous news, whilst Radio 4 has the Today programme from 6am to 9am, which is all news.

    Works well in my bedroom.

You don't have to "put it up" it's an indoor aerial. I had mine wedged on a shelf.
The Freeview box does all the hard work you just need to plug an aerial into it and if you can't put one outside just put it in your room.

Do you want to watch the news live?? or on catch up?

If you are happy with catch up then a now tv box will do the job. I have the same problem in my bedroom, an old tv with only a scart socket, no wall socket aerial, set top aerials do not work in this area (you have to live with a certain radius of the transmitter for them to work).

I have a now tv box plugged into it and can now watch catch up tv on iplayer. 4od and 5 :)

now tv will work with scart but this only solves the problem if you are happy with catch up only.
