BBC News

I would like to be able to watch bbc news on my old bedroom tv, without the need of an aerial/cable/satelitte. I have been reading about an android tv stick, then download TV catch up and do it that way.

Would that work? And any suggestion of a good brand of tv sticks.

Thank you

Susanna

If you've got access to the internet in the room, how about using a laptop or tablet with a video output, connected to the TV?

That way you could watch TV live, rather than downloading stuff and then transferring it to watch on TV.

Whether or not that's practical depends on what internet-enabled devices you have and what input connections there are on the TV.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Which will require a TV licence.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Hello,

Thanks for the answers. I have a nowtv box and have been told that I can't get live tv on that, also I can't get permission to put an aerial up, I live in a rented flat.

The tv is old, so only has a scart socket. I did not want to have to put my laptop through the tv.

I think I will have to give up on the idea, just would have been nice to watch the news while getting ready for work. Hopefully something new will arrive soon,

    Thanks again.

now tv has iplayer (which gives live tv including bbc news and the last two hours, as well as on demand), as do laptops (ie watch laptop, not through tv)

a cheap set top aerial would probably work, unless you are in a bad signal area.

  • You can get a Freeview box and plug a digital aerial into it and that would connect to your TV by scart.

Missed this by the OP? and no such thing as a 'digital aerial':

    I meant something like this:
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/261237955257?lpid=83&device=t&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=83&ff19=0

I actually have this exact one. And used to plug it into a Freeview box attached to my TV by the scart socket.
It says in the description that it is a digital aerial. And like I said I have this exact one. So it definitely exists!

It may well exist however the one thing it is not is a "digital aerial" - there is no such thing.

That picture link shows someone standing on the beach, if there is any sort of aerial in the photo it is well hidden.

For just £10 purchase price (avoid signing up for anything you have to pay monthly for) NowTV is worth a try. You need an HDMI input on your TV, apparently it does have live BBC News (and Sky News). If you already have a license for the other TVs in the household, you wouldn't need any extra license.
